Customer service......... not!

Just been to my local OPC in XXXXX to get a replacement brake light bulb. I was asked whether I would fit it myself or needed it fitting as it will take at least 1.5 hours as the replacement bulb exercise must also include a full car health check!! I asked why this was necessary and was told for 'insurance purposes'. Do these people really believe that customers are so gullible? Twice on road trips both in Germany I have had brake lights fail and replacement bulbs fitted immediately by German OPC's without any questions or messing about or charge for that matter. Perhaps they see the bigger picture?

Really is time dealerships understood what customer service is. It isn't fancy chairs, TVs, coffee on arrival or being led to the service desk by the receptionist (I am not that old yet!) But setting up your business to meet customer demand in an efficient and effective manner not expecting customers to fit into ridiculous timescales including unnecessary health checks. We all know what those are meant to generate! Anyway the result was a customer stood in the car park fitting his own bulb. Wonder whether that's in the business model? Anyway rant over!

Edited to remove the OPC location.

Much that I sympathise forum rules preclude naming and shaming. I have edited this and your previous post to remove the OPC location.

Hi Nick,
I went to Halfords ,total cost of purchasing the bulb and them fitting it was circa ÂŁ6.00.

I am a bit (probably undeservedly) sensitive about who touches my precious car! I had no problem fitting it, it's just the annoying attitude of the OPC who seem intent on milking customers at every opportunity! Last time I had a service there they told me I urgently needed a new water pump. I checked this out with a couple of local Porsche independents who both said it was rubbish! ÂŁ600 plus VAT!

You know the answer. Go to another OPC.... Or for a bulb Halfords and either fit yourself or get them to do it. My Local Halfords did really well for ÂŁ6 with a headlight bulb on my daily driver. It was a pig of a job and they did no damage to any part of the car.

So, without being able to name the OPC I guess poor service and rip off companies are protected, what a shame Plightbown did not
state in his profile which part of the country he is from.

But I guess its OK to say who provides good service?

Political correctness gone mad.

But, why couldn't the OPC be named and shamed, indeed there are so many sites that allow comments positive and negative
like trip advisor, Trustpilot, If you have a company or business and your serving c.r.a.p. you should go out of business

It's probably because like most forums the 'accused' (OPC in this case) doesn't get a chance to put in their side of the story.

I don't think it's right either but companies these days reach for the direct line to their lawyer and the club has paid out enough to those in the past.

If you want to know the OPC then you can always email the poster.

I'm sure if it happened to me I would tell one and all re the incident.

Everyone in the motor trade must know that Good new travels little but Bad news travels fast!

Understand that Nick, but, Twitter/Facebook, trustpilot and tripadvisor all allow comments of any sort, surely if the comments are untrue and defamatory/Libel the company would take issue with the person making the comment - not the forum.

Unfortunately that is not the case as we have been advised. The club is responsible for what is posted on its forum.

That's the advice we have been given and that's why we are very careful about naming and shaming.

Maybe the OP could tell us the location of the nice little tea-room he had breakfast in prior to visiting his OPC? Woe betide anyone who should criticise a Porsche dealer for offering to rip off their loyal customers, but it is always good to share the knowledge of a good brekky!

It's not just here.

Pistonheads is very quick to react in an identical way and it is their clear policy too.
