Cuts out on start up

Just started to happen but when the car is cold and I start the engine it cuts out, I have to rev the engine a couple of times before it ticks over on it's own. I don't think my neighbours apreciate this first thing in the morning.

Any ideas?

Start with using the replacement DME (that you should have in your glove box!) then move on to the air flow sensor both low cost items, then try the register again updating them with any improvements change of symptons etc

Just swapped the DME relay over and it started first time and ticked over beautifully.
Thanks very much.

Good news Steve. I had a problem whereby the engine would seem to stall when driving at a constant speed. This too was cured by swapping with the new DME relay that I had stashed in the glove box[:)].

If anyone has got a new one as a spare, take our advice and put the new one in the fuse box and keep the old one for emergencies[;)]

The problem is back so I checked on design911 for an Air Flow sensor and they want £725.00 is this a mistake as others are around the £200 mark?
The car seams erratic when cold so was wondering if it had anything to do with the automatic choke?

£620 from Type 911 - oh the joys of having a 911 parts/accessories specialist 2 miles from home

From what I've seen on Rennlist, idling problems are mostly caused by a dirty ISV rather than a MAF sensor. Might be worth getting that off and giving it a clean before going to the expense of putting in a new MAF which is more associated with loss of power further up the range.

Just to a search on the 964 forum of Rennlist for ISV.

there's a how to on p-car but its for a 993, not sure how similar it is on the '64 as not had to do it yet.. am on my way out to get a spare DME relay now [;)]
