Cuts out when going over a bump!

Hi guys,

I have an '82 Lux which I took for its first longish drive (35 miles) today. It has been dry stored for the last 12 months.

When I went over a reasonable bump it cut out. I pulled over and it started straight away.

As we were on our way to the garage I got them to check the fuel pump mountings and the electrical terminals - all good.

They also changed the fuel filter. It did it twice on the way there and once on the way back and it only seemed to be when the rear was jolted.

Any ideas ????

Thanks, Jeff

check and clean the crank sensor multiplugs on the back of the engine, they get brittle and prone to coming partly apart, other things are DME relay partially failing. What ever it is it sounds electrical and it's intermittent therefore something not making a good contact and breaking contact over bumps. Engine earth lead is another possibility.

Ok, Thanks Pete.

Will have a look at the multi plug and earth strap tomorrow.

The garage mentioned a fuel pump relay - is that the DME relay ?

Thanks, Jeff

Just an update in case anyone else gets the same thing.

Problem now solved. [8|]

It was the multiplug metal clip not locked in place allowing the plug to move very slightly.

When checking everything over I also noticed that the battery clamp was loose, not sure if this was also part of the problem, but a potential one nipped in the bud [;)][;)]

So, nice one Pete - Thanks for your help.
