Cutting out in the wet

Been having some intermitant probs with the 964.

When very wet it stalls and wont idle, requires lots of right foot to get going. Even then when motoring at less than 30-40 it will just die like running out of petrol.

I had all the HT leads replaced about two weeks ago cost £400! But on the one rainy day since have had the same prob although not so bad.

Could it be the dizzy caps need doing or do you think I have an earth problem somewhere. The DMA has been replaced.

Any ideas before the winter months come in for good would be cool!

Yes, dizzy caps worth checking/doing. It's worth checking that both ignition circuits are working properly. With engine off, remove one of the ignition module plugs at the coils and run the engine. Do the same for the other circuit. This can help identify if there is a problem in one circuit.

Maybe one is dead and your other is getting wet and failing.

Hope this helps.

John,

The only thing I can add to Malcolm's comments is that there have been many reports in the past of behaviour similar to that which you describe being attributed to a water-logged O2 sensor. Once the sensor dries out it all goes back to normal - but, come the heavy rain, the problems re-appear. It's not the cheapest thing in the world to replace (around £90) and an absolute PITA to do. It's apparently important to get a "real" Porsche unit since it seems the Bosch pattern parts are not as water resistant as they could be.

Hope that helps,

Best regards

Dave
