CV Boot Replacement

Dekker

New member
I took my car to an open day in late Sept and got it into the garage for a free check.
Found 3 split boots so I'm going to do them all, thats 8 on a C4.

I've read some articles which explain about replacing them on the rears, though there's some debate as to whether the stub axle needs to be removed to facilitate this. A 240ft/lbs nut needs to be slackened on the rear hub if the rear drive shaft is removed to make the process easier.

However no one has mentioned the front ones. If my memory is correct, to remove the front stub axle you destroy the front bearing also.

Has anyone done this or got any advice?

Much appreciated, David.

The cause of one side being that the joint (964 349 938 00)

To answer your question though, there is no bearing damage done removing or replacing them. A couple of pics attached I hope help.[FONT=verdana, geneva"]

Hi Marcus, thanks for the reply.

I've just ordered the parts from Eurocarparts and got 25% off (enter code winter25 when checking out) so the total was £87.74 including delivery.
Pretty good price for all 8 of them.

Cheers David

[FONT=verdana, geneva"]Nice one. I remember a couple of years ago I got one boot for the rear from Type911 and it was pretty cheap then (didn't check the cost from Centre Gravity). Apparently it's a common type from Chrysler or GM - can't remember which. Suppose it would be really...
