D90 and tyre availability

My intention for my recently bought 944 S2 was as a fun weekend car with, say, six track days a year. Luckily the previous owner bundled in a spare set of D90s with the deal, so I thought I was all good to go for putting on some track day tyres and swapping the wheels over as and when I needed to.

However I read in another post that getting tyres in the D90 size is getting difficult. Since I have always liked the Cup 1s, I wondered firstly what sizes they take and whether they are more tyres available in their size.

And finally, they don't seem to come up very often. Are they super rare?

Cup 1's always seem to be in demand - I reckon you're looking at close to £500 for a good set.

You don't really need 17's for the track - I'd suggest looking at 225/50/16's all round to go on the D90's (assuming they are 7F 8R). I'm running that size on the turbo at the moment until I wear them out [:D]

Cup1 design was made for the the 944. (Actually it wasn't, but it should have been [:D] ).

S2 D90's are a doddle to get tyres for ~ plenty of choice and cheap. Fronts are 205/55/16, rears are 225/50/16.

Turbo D90s are a bit wider ~ as per above 225/50/16 fronts are easy to get, but the choice becomes rather limited in the 245/45/16 rear size.

You can get Toyo T1R in that size - which is a tyre I like a lot and it suits the '44. Some don't like them however and there aren't a huge range of alternatives now.

Move up to 17" Cups (1 or 2) and the choice becomes expansive again.
