D90 Centre Caps

Hello all,

I am having my D90's refurbished shortly and was wondering about the crested centre caps. When I got the car they were same colour as the wheel, silver. But, I have seen on the web a few shops selling coloured crested caps for the D90's. I want to keep the car original, does any one know what was the original fitment for a '91 S2. Cheers.

Hmmm. Don't know. [&:]

I've got brochures for the '88 and '89 model years, and all the cars pictured have silver caps. The price list for '88 doesn't list coloured centres as an option?

The coloured centre for D90s that is period is a metal flat disc version, must say last time i tried to buy some from the OPC they had trouble getting them, there are some specialists that may still stock them, bit of advice if you source them use gentle cleaning products on your wheels because they can fade quite quickly.

I ditched the original caps in favour of 993 caps, they have the crest in black which I think compliment clean wheels better, and as they are made of plastic they are unlikely to corrode (pitting) over time. They are lighter too.
So far the black paint on the crests hasn't peeled off at all.

But yes, all D90s had the caps originally painted in silver.

Thanks guys

I will keep them silver I had a feeling that they were always plain silver as they seem to be original.

I originally bought my 1990 turbo in 1993,at the main dealer back then the coloured centres were available as flat metal with a coloured crest as a dealer fit ,just like coloured centres for the current models are available today.I remember because i bought some myself[:)]

The chap I bought mine from had beautifully hand painted the raised relief centre caps after filling in the two holes in each

I am biased but they looked the absolute dogs danglies and I was asked about them many times.

Only issue was that to get them off you needed to take the wheel off and knock them out from behind but how often is that an issue?

My 91 S2 has D90s with colored caps. Mine came to Canada via Japan so I can't say if the caps are standard or optional as my sticker is missing. Based on the rest of the car, I'm comfortable saying the colored caps came on it when new as did the headlight elevation control, sun roof delete, split rear seat and mobile phone antenna. I did get a COA from Porsche NA for this car and it only listed the "16 ventiler" badge and side moldings as options. It may be these other options were standard for the "version for Japan". Another recent S2 owner in my area acquired a 90 S2 - also from Japan. His came with the colored caps which were subsequently stolen. He replaced his with silver ones based on cost - he didn't indicate that colored caps were hard to get - just too expensive.....

Design 911 have a great website for wheel centre caps, they have some good quality non genuine ones aswell.

When you can buy properly printed ones for about £90 a set? He had more time than most of us! [&:]

As far as I know they were just silver metal ones on all cars, mave to say I'm a fan of the black and silver ones, and when I finally get the wheels done I'm intending to have them painted black in the recessed sections

I have a set of metal centre caps on my s2 with coloured crests. The porsche part No. is 928 361 032 11 TPP. I think they vastly improve the looks of the car.
