DAB/Internet Radio and PCM upgrade

Just had the new PCM update on my 997.2.

Coincidentally have been trying a Tune2Air BT dongle with iPhone 4S for music streaming as an alternative to leaving a spare iPod permanently connected.

Spotted two interesting/useful things, Following the update:
1. Messages from CameraAlert app are now 'streamed' through the car audio, which is marvellous as they're much more audible as they get treated via the Bose audiopilot
2. Conscious that most of us don't have DAB, tried running an iPhone radio app, AND IT WAS STREAMED TO THE CAR AUDIO, in preference to the iPhone music. (And reverted to iPhone music if I stopped the App)

Minor glitch, which is that the two BT profiles (audio and phone) appear to fight and so I'm getting small dropouts.

However, this seems to be a pretty reasonable way to get any internet radio station via the PCM.

Not if you have the mobile phone signal that we get in this neck of the woods! Very interesting info for those with 4G though[:)]

Agreed - totally signal-dependent. I put the iPhone in the cup holder so it has a good 'view' of the outside world (for CameraAlert initially), and this seems to give it the best chance assuming you've got coverage.

Generally I find 3G on the move pretty rubbish in terms of bandwidth no matter where i am, but radio is quite bit-light.

On iOS.

Actually CamerAlert - sorry I mis-spelled it.

I did use RoadAngel app but it was the most hopelessly unreliable app I possibly ever owned. In any event they've given up with it. To be balanced, the interface was good, whereas the CA displays a moving map so grinds through your data allowance I would imagine and of course disappears when signal is lost.

AFAIK, the CA holds the database in-phone so even if you lose the moving map (i.e. EDGE/GPRS/3G signal), the GPS is still relating to the database to ensure you are still alerted.

CA does have some good features: it displays average speed in, er, average speed areas. Handy as you can pull over and have a coffee whilst the average comes back down.

Also, as you'll have read, with my setup it streams the voice warnings to the car audio and so they're heard loud and clear no matter what music or horsepower you have selected.

I use RoadPilot, Trapster, CameraAlert and TomTom on iPhone 5S on a windscreen mount. It will run all at once as no one database has all sites and mobiles. Best of course to have phone connected to power socket all the time...
