Finally got my 944 last week. Spent 2 months cleaning it, had to wait 2 weeks while it was in the garage to have bits sprayed and get tiny bits sorted, then a another weeks wait while the guy who was doing the MOT come back from hol (Flew the MOT having been garaged for nearly 4 years, which just 1 advisory on a bush) .

After all that my insurance started and she was taxed and fully road legal.

had it a week now and the fuel consumption is pretty good. Its only a 2.5 8v, but ive been driving a dirty diesel for 4 months and that had great MPG. the 944 is costing me £10 a week more which aint bad !

I've found it great to drive everyday, its similar to my Golf GTI MK2 in a way, solid, smooth. Yet the POrsche is a bit more raw, fun and bit quicker.

Just wondered if anyone else uses there for a daily car? I can even fit my golf bag and clubs in the boot with the driver and the back seats up! :p
 
Sounds like a similar situation to me - I've just swapped my sensible 306 D Turbo for an S2 with 220k on the clock, using it as a daily driver. Only two and a bit weeks so far so can't speak from great experience, but already added about 2k with no immediate problems. In fact, seems to be happier being used regularly, although that's probably partly me getting used to it.
 
Yep. It's an ideal car to use as a daily driver, as it's a lot more fun and interesting than a Eurobox, and as they cost buttons to buy, they're pretty much disposable if you do run them into the ground.

It's not the quickest car I've had by a long way, but in terms of bang for your buck, it's really hard to beat.
 
Aye, it beats driving the usual borring Bora, Audi, Passat TDIs i see everyday on the motorway.

Only thing on my mind is driving in the wet. I have some RWD experiance, but its a Merc 2.5 TD which is kept under control by ABS + T/C. Whats the 944 like in the wet? Got pretty much new tyres all round on the car atm
 
Be wary of deep roadside puddles when driving in the wet, especially if you have wide tyres, a nice big nearside puddle will whip the steering round very quickly. Not a clever car to drive in serious snow either, although I do drive the auto version I`ve attempted driving the manual in snow and it`s not a lot better. 10000 miles a year, every year, every day absolutely superb car.
 
They're fine in the wet. Just like any other car without driver aids. This is where being an old git is handy, because it's only comparatively recently that traction control and ABS has been put on cars. [;)]
 
It isn't as if these cars have got oodles of power (unless you've got a Turbo with some mods). You don't need to be excessively cautious in the wet any more than in any other car.

How many times do you see the traction control light flashing on your modern car in the wet? Drive your 944 like you don't want to see the light flash, and you'll be fine. The car has excellent balance, so you aren't going to be fighting physics.

If you want excitement, I used to have a TVR Cerbera 4.5, which I drove in the snow. Now that's fun. 420BHP, rear wheel drive, no driver aids, and no grip eiter [8D]
 
I've used 3 different 944s for 50k per year (a Turbo and 2 S2s) They are fine and only the Turbo occasionally catches you out with a bit of snap oversteer in the wet, the S2 is benign. They are awful in snow though as has been said.

BTW I play at getting the traction control light to flash in the hearse. I used to do it in the wet, but that got too easy so now I do it on dry roundabouts, too [8D]

Impressed with the 220K, gives me hope as I just passed 180K.

I have owned my car for 9 1/2 years and have covered 120K miles in that time. Still love it to bits. Including 3 times to the South of France (and another trip in the offing next month), twice to Le Mans at (ahem) sustained HIGH speeds and three or four time to East of France where the Mrs's parents live. Done my laps at the Neurburgring, hit vmax on the Autobharn, takes everything I can throw at it.

By the way, surely a little bit a rear end action (if you see what I mean) is half the fun. I find the breakaway easy to catch and very progressive.
 
Mines a daily driver and it gets better day by day. These cars really need to be driven to get the best out of them. I can really tell when mines been in the garage and unused for a couple of weeks.
 
I love it. Although i have just put in another £40 petrol but i've been doing 50~70 miles a day spirited driving!
