Daily Driver 997

It's one full year, to the day, of owning my dream car, a 997 C4S (2006, Gen1)

I have logged 11,500 miles, enjoyed the brilliance of the car in all weathers and can safely say that I have not enjoyed driving so much in years. I'm lucky to have a choice of car every morning and - unless serious load lugging was needed, it was my C4S every time. And even then you'd be surprised what you can stuff in to one!.

There have been some minor niggles and other than a water leak (discussed elsewhere on the forum) nothing to give cause for concern. I don't feel the need to worry about breaking anything - it's so well put together.

Interestingly, it has taken me a long time to appreciate the sheer range of abilities, and the engineering thinking behind it all.

Occasions when it reveals its true abilities - and character - are hard to come by. (I suppose I would have gotten up to speed more quickly if I had gone to a track, but I didn't.)

Of course, when you know that there's something new to find out about the beast every time you drive it, the smile factor just goes off the scale.

I'm a lucky boy and a happy owner. Thanks Porsche!

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for sharing your impressions with us. I'm glad to hear the 997 novelty hasn't worn off. The longest I kept a 911 was 5 years and I can honestly say I enjoyed driving it as much on the last day as I did on the first - that's Porsche Power and the reason we're prepared to invest so much in the marque.

I'm aware that a lot of our events this year have been in the south of the country, so not convenient for you, but we're hoping to put on a drive in a more northerly location later this year so look out for that.

In the meantime there's the Club's Silverstone Classic event in July to consider and a chance to make history too. [:)]

Regards,

Clive
