Damaged 944

I've cross-posted this from the "for sale" section:

We have had our 'facelift dash' 1986 series 1 944 Lux for 4yrs and had it rear-ended 2 weeks ago. The damage is not sufficient to be a write-off - but enough for the perpetrator's insurance company to have decided it is 'uneconomic to repair'. They have decided in their wisdom to pay us out some cash in lieu of doing any repairs to it - and leave us with the car. Our dilema is whether to try to repair it with second hand parts (needs undertray spoiler/rear bumper/rear centre panel section), sell it for someone to repair themselves as a project, sell bits off it and discard what's left - or try to sell it to a specialist breaker. It's by no means a concourse car - but has plenty of good stuff on it - including a full red leather interior in very good condition (all interior trim very good), new windscreen (with tint), new rear tyres (plus nearly new fronts!), new exhaust middle/rear sections, new pads all round, good front bumper/lights, good badge panel, good bonnet, good rear tailgate, good doors/mirrors, good sunroof panel, reasonable teledials, etc, etc, etc.
We had planned to move on to an S2 in 2-3yrs - so are looking to do so now that our hand has been forced - and would welcome any suggestions/offers - either to buy the car or a good proportion of it - or as to where we could source parts and labour most economically to repair it. We are in the southwest london / surrey border area & would appreciate any input from members. Can e-mail pics to those interested on request.

Sound like an easy enough repair but if you fancied an s2 it might be a good time to get one. Also depends on where your heart is with the car as in it current state it probably worth more in parts that to sell as a full car !!!

Many of the listed "new" parts are consumables - pads, tyres, etc. so don't add greatly to the value of the vehicle. The other listed "good condition" parts are in good condition on most 944's so don't have much value.

What is listed as an insurance write off isn't going to be as desirable as an apparently unmolested car so you might be lucky to get high £2K once repaired. As you have no great attachment for the car (you note that you really want an S2) I'd go with breaking it unless someone will buy it as is.

HI there

I've got a complete passenger near side door (no wing mirror) but glass, seals wiring etc in red going spare.

Ring me or PM to arrange pick up & payment
