Damaged rear "bumper"

Reversed into another car this morning (doh!). Left a fist sized dent in the corner of the rear bumper. The dent itself has popped out, but predictably there are a few small creases left and a scuff or two.
Anyone know if these can be repaired? Or is the only solution a whole new rear bumper...
If the former, I'm minded to get it done outside the insurance, but presumably a new bumper would be mega bucks so would have to go through the insurance company, who probably wouldn't then quote me happy come renewal time ... [8|]

I would think it is only a polycarbonate bumper which should be easily repaired for around the £2-300 mark?

No use now, but those reversing aids are quite a good investment, saved me a few times from the same situation.

I've got reversing aids! (don't ask ...)

a friend of mine told me quite a funny story about those parking sensors. His wife had to move his cayenne out of the drive. she started reversing but was struggling to guage how close she was to the garden wall - and in fact reversed straight into. Not good. My mate wasn't that impressed, and said, "didn't you hear parking sensors go off. they start beeping when near an object, and beep faster the closer you get".

"oh" she replied, "that's what that noise is. as i started reversing the beeping got worse and i paniced and drove faster thinking it would stop".

despite the nature and comical value of this very real story, I do feel bad that you damaged your car. i hope you get it fixed cheaply and well. good luck.

Take it to a local bodyshop or Smart repairer who will be able to tell you if it is repairable or not (it sounds like it is). Avoid main dealers who just try to sell you a new bumper, find one that likes to fix things.

I'm a Smart repairer and those reversing sensors are the bane of my life if they are not painted body colour[] It takes me ages to mask them off when I am repairing a scuffed bumper thats been reversed into something by someone ignoring those very sensors [:D]

A friend of mine reversed his M3 into his house becaue he had his stereo on so loud he couldn't hear the parking sensors!!

Hope you manage to get yours sorted without too much financial pain.
