Damp carpet - Front Driver's side

Before I start investigating.........anyone got any suggestions please?

2003 C4 with sun roof

I have recently noticed damp carpet on the outside edge of the drivers floor and also on the carpet next to the fuse box. No other dampness found anywhere else. Interestingly I do get some condensation at the bottom right corner of the windscreen that is difficult to clear.

Unfortunately my car is parked at home on a drive (no garage sadly) at a fairly steep angle (nose up) and I wonder if this is interfering with the normal drainage. Without rebuilding my drive I'm stuck with parking at an angle so just parking it level isn't really an option.

Any suggestions on investigating and/or solving this problem appreciated.

Many thanks

Almost certainly a blocked drainage channel from the sunroof. Easily cleaned out using some plastic strimmer wire or the like. Open the sun roof and you'll see the drainage holes in the corners of the roof aperture

It sounds like the front drains might be blocked. Take off the battery cover and the plastic panels either side of it. You'll need a T20 Torx driver - there is a single screw in each panel.

Look at the area either side of the battery. If there is a lot of water, that's your problem. It will spill over into the footwell. You will see four rubber grommet-type things on the bottom of the compartment (2 each side). Poke them out with a screwdriver. The drains go to the underside of the car, and often get blocked.

It could be that too. The roof drain exits through a grommet just below the top door hinge. As Ashley says, nylon strimmer line is the best tool, and gently blow it out with an air line if you have one.

Many thanks Ashley and Richard.

Always handy to get a steer from the forum before looking at these faults.

By the way Richard, I recently changed the voltage regulator thanks to your link to a DIY article on another forum - it was a breeze and solved the non-charging battery a treat, so thanks for that too!
