Damp Carpets

Guest

New member
So I had my SC out in the driving rain last week. Then, while giving the car a good clean at the weekend, I found that the carpets in the passenger footwell are pretty damp. There also seems to be a bit of dampness around the rear seats. I am going to put some work into finding possible leaks this weekend. Where should I be looking and does anyone have any useful tips in finding/fixing leaks?

Cheers!

Had the same thing - car damp inside for years and various garages tried everything from new seals all over the place to refitting windscreen etc. OPC charged £500 to investigate but did not fix. One day was fiddling about with a slow window lifter mechanism and when I took the door funiture off the membrane behind the door cards was ripped to shreds. Reaplced this and hey presto! No more leaks.[:D]
Hope this of use.

There are a number of possible culprits for water ingress. To name a few, sunroof drain tubes can block, water can drip through from the front compartment, door drain holes can get blocked, door window seals can let it through and as Julian says the plastic door liners can let you down. Most cars no longer have the liners fitted, it's always been a pain to refit them and as often as not a lazy person chooses not to replace them when refitting the door trim after a stereo upgrade etc. Shame really as they're relatively inexpensive from Porsche and can also be easily fabricated at home from a sheet of polythene.

My tip would be to get an able assistant to spray water on the car, concentrating on a certain area of the car for a while then moving round. From inside get your head under the dash and as many other inaccessible places as you can and keep an eye out for any drips. Once you've located the source(s) you can take remedial action.

Windscreen is prime suspect they some times need some mastic round them to help them seal. As said above a hose pipe and see if you can see it coming in.
