damp nearside footwell

Just packing the car to set off for Provence in the morning and noticed a musty smell. Further investigation revealed a rather damp nearside front footwell.

The car has been little used this last month and probably not at all in the last 10 days or so (using Clio as station car ATM). I did top up both washer and radiator levels yesterday evening and was quite liberal with overspill.

Could this be source of problem, or could it be air-con related, or is there another possible explanation?

Anyone any ideas or experienced a similar problem?

Any help much appreciated.

Yes I have experienced this too I could hear water sloshing about when I went round a corner, it was caused by blocked rubber bungs in both the engine compartment and sills both are removable and can be cleared stand clear as the water will pour out. Hope this helps

Thanks for the tip. Haven't heard any sloshing about noises, but probably due to volume setting requested by daughter on the way down! Can you give tip in location of bungs? Although might wait 'til I get home when I'll have access to ramp, especially if it requires too much rolling about on the ground!

Thanks Denise

Hi if you have ramps it will save you rolling about on the floor like my husband did!!the bungs are at the bottom front of the sills and in the engine compartment right hand side ( passenger ) remove plastic panels top right hand then move fingers into the gap to find and remove bungs either with your fingers or a screwdriver, we have left the bung out of the engine bay but have put them back in the sills. Good luck

Also had this on ours ..... about a gallon of water came out when the bungs were puled out.

See this link for a Touareg, the procedure is the same:

btw it took best part of a week to dry the carpets out, the foam under it soaks up so much water.

Denise and Nick,
Thanks for tip and link to Touareg site. Looks like a job for when I get back as still enjoying sunshine of Provence and would rather lounge by the pool than under the car, but gives me something to look forward to when I get home[:D][:D]

Try not to be directly underneath the bung when you pull it out [:D]
