Damp seatbelt

Strange prob, i know people are prob sick of "my car is leaking posts" but i have searched!

First, the drivers door keeps filling up with water. When i open the door then the water escapes! Also, my drivers seatbelt is sometimes damp when it rains heavy.

I did clean all the door seals on the drivers door which has stopped the swimming pool behind the drivers seat. Although it does get slighty damp at times, nothing like it used to!

Just wondered if anyone knows:

A) Why my door fills with water (Closing the door, braking you can her it slushing around in the door
B) How the seat belt is getting damp

Thanks in advance

You will always get water inside the doors, your problem sounds like its not draining off, check the drains in the bottom of the doors

How many drain holes should there be? I looked before, and i might just of been blind at the time but didnt see any. The only time it drains is out the front corner (Part of the door thats closest to the wheel).

Trouble is with all this bloody rain cant get chance to look under :)

The drains in the door are partially obscured by the rubber seal, there must be at least 4 or 5 tucked under there. I've just recently cleaned mine out for exactly the same reason (I used a long cable tie which was perfect). I suspect new window seals might reduce the ingress, but as Dave mentions above, I doubt you'd ever get rid of it completely.

As for the damp seat belt, I'd have a careful look at the sunroof and its drains. Whilst I don't think the front drain is that near the B pillar (its too cold and dark to go outside and check [;)]) it might be possible for the water to run along the metal and come down there (particularly if the car is parked at an angle).

I mention this as I've had water leaking out of the holes where the rear seat locating bolts were, whcih surprised me at the time. This was because I knocked the rear drain pipe out when converting to a manual sunroof.

Or maybe the drains are completely blocked and the water is finding an escape route somewhere along the seal, running down behind the headlining and onto the belt mechanism?

Best regards,
Peter

Could be that i knocked the pipe off, i did clean the drain pipe few months ago! But im 85% sure its leaking because the door is filling right up with water, will have a butchers tomorrow :)

Peter the main reason for the plastic shield between the door and the door trim is to prevent water damaging the trim.

Is there a particular section of the belt that gets especially damp? Is it the part that's always exposed inside the car or from the part you get from the reel as you extend it?

Best regards,
Peter

Sorry I don't think I explained that very well [:)]

The Window seal I was referring to are the ones that run against the glass as it slides up and down. These can get worn and damaged with age and will let an awful lot more water in than intended, so I think it maybe worth Logie checking their condition if the drain holes seem to be getting blocked regularly. I also find its worth taking the door trim and sheet off and giving it a proper clean every few years (I do a final rinse with Isopropanol alcohol), as it does build up gradually.

Regarding the plastic sheet, this was a problem on my drivers door when I bought the car, it was ripped and held together with sticky tape []. The card panel has discoulored and distorted because of this. I've now got some spare ones and swapping them over is on my ever lengthening 2007 to do list (same as the 2006 one with the date crossed out [;)]).

Best regards,
Peter

It mainly the bottom of it, so when i put my seatbelt on, then i can feel it. Its not soaking or anything, its just damp. I think water is spilling over the vent when i drive off with the door full of water.

I had a look yesterday for the drain holes underneath, do i need to take the door card off to get at them properly?

No, they are very near the outside edge, behind the rubber seal that sits round the bottom next to the door skin.

I had a look yesterday and the rubber seal looks like its sealed in? I was trying to pull it back and it seam to be bonded in, so i didnt try further incase it was supposed to be.

From memory it fits in a recess formed by the edge of the door skin. It should pull away from the door itself. If it's bonded to the door then that could be your problem.

Okie, thanks for the info. Will give it a bit more of a tug as now i know its supposed to come out. It could be that its caked in with crap

If it helps, on mine I didn't need to remove the seal, it just helps to get down low to get a better view. I squashed the seal lightly with one hand to expose each drain hole and then using the cable tie in the other hand poked them clear.
Best regards,
Peter
