Dansk cat and mufflers plus RS goodies fitted!!!

I've just had a Dansk 100 cell cat and 380S mufflers fitted to my car, along with RS engine mounts and RS short shift kit, including the mythical Golden Rod (the Porsche version, not aftermarket). Next I'm taking a trip to the Midlands for visit to Centre Gravity and then up north to Chip Wizards.

As happens with new mufflers from what I've read, I think the sound is evolving. When they were first fitted, there was a really hard metallic rasping sound, which is now subsiding after a good run to Norwich and back at the weekend. I think they still have some more running in to go through, as I've covered about 350 miles since they were fitted.

The car is louder, but not insanely so. It's much deeper, without any booming, unless you drop to a low gear and apply full throttle, which makes no sense anyway. I like the sound, but it's something I haven't heard from a 993 before. I'm now addicted to running the car through the rev range, blipping the throttle when changing down, driving with the windows down, finding as many tunnels or walls as possible etc.... Will post a before and after video over the weekend.

The most amazing change is the fitting of RS engine mounts. The handling of the car has been transformed and that's before I get to Centre Gravity this week. Everything has improved - turn in, steering feel, for some reason the rack feels quicker, in corner grip, traction exiting corners feels so much more connected, body control over rough surfaces has increased massively. It now feels like I actually have Bilstein HDs and an M030 chassis; as if the RS engine mounts were the missing link that has now connected everything. I'm sure standard or C4 mounts would have improved matters too, but wow, this car is now awesome.

The RS short shift kit has taken the gearbox from being slightly unpredictable in terms of its shift quality, to being utterly sublime.

I have a car that has gone from being a lovely, slightly soft, please all markets, factory spec sports car, to one that is a weekend indulgence, where each journey is going to be an event, even if I'm going down to Homebase for some wood chippings and a bird box. (OK, maybe not the wood chippings, or the car park.) [;)]

Ultimately, my abilities as a driver are now far exceeded by the handling capabilities of my car. With visits to both Centre Gravity and Chip Wizards booked in, I think it's time for some advanced tuition.......maybe I'll need that engine carrier strengthening after all. [8D]

Sam,

Do you have the part numbers for the RS Quickshift mod as I would like to do this on my car. Was out in my car earlier this week and the standard shift does seem extremely long for a sports car especially compared to the RS Escort I had years ago.

I fitted the RS engine mounts about a year ago and like you found an amazing change to the car, the most notable was the clutch bite being more consistent.

Exhaust are something I keep considering, one for the future.

Cheers,

Andy.

This is the short shift kit, which is genuine Porsche from Carnewal, where I sourced mine.
