Dash Board Light Boxster

The light has gone on my odometer in the dashboard. The obometer and tripmeter are still working and I can just see the reading from them. How difficult is it to change the bulb? Is it a DIY or dealer job? If DIY, what steps do I need to take?

My car is 2000 Boxster S with trip computer, no cruise control.

Thanks

I'm guessing its just a bulb in which case you need to remove the instrument panel, which is not too difficult.
You need to prise out the microphone cover (to the right of the instruments) and prise out the hazard warning light swith (easier if you turn the hazards on first). Inside each of the openings is a Torx screw and these both need to be removed. Might be an idea to lay a cloth on top of your steering column to protect it and the instrument panel. Next, lift up the instrument cluster: there are clips which hold it in place but lift it firmly and it will pop out. The instrument panel will still be held in place by three large connectors but you hopefully, you will be able to get at the correct bulb without disconnecting these.
Refitting is the reverse of the above (as they say in the Haynes manuals); however the manuals also helpfully forget to tell you that you need 8" fingers or a pet monkey who happens to be a crack mechanic. This operation is no exception to that: the only way to re-fit the right hand Torx screw is with a magnetised screwdriver as you cannot get your hand into the small hole to steady the screw as you tighten it.
Even so should only take 30 mins.

I've a 2001 2.7 boxster wit hthe same problem.

Seems its not a bulb problem though, something to do with LED's , mine requires a new dash
