Dash cam issues

devans

Hi, bought a dash cam recently and fitted into the Porsche with sound activated, just connects into the cigarette lighter. Thought it would be interesting to see the feedback on my laptop with the exhaust noise etc.

Things went well for about a week, then things started to go strangely wrong.Went to start my car one evening and my lights wouldn't come on. No dipped or high beam lights on both drivers side and passengers side. As these run off different fuses I thought it was strange. Anyway, after removing one of the fuses and then simply replacing, they all started working.

A few days later, windscreen wipers wouldn't work. Again, I simply removed the fuse and replaced as again there was nothing wrong with the fuse.

I have now removed the dash cam and interestingly enough, everything works fine. I also had no problems before fitting the dash cam.

Has anyone else experienced issues with dash cams and could it be responsible for these strange occurances.

thanks

No responses yet, do I assume nobody runs dash cams!!!!
It was a fairly cheap unit, only £15. Made in China, but then what's not made in China nowadays.
is it feasible that items plugged into the cigarette lighter can affect other systems. Must be a tech guru on this site somewhere,
thanks

I can't explain why removing it solved the problem, but the original symptoms sound more like the ignition switch failing to me.
