Dash fan noise?

Any experiance guys?

Last couple of times I've had the car out within the 1st five minutes a noise comes from the dash area something like either cogs slipping or something like pressing a screwdriver against a fan! Any ideas? Hot and cold is produced out of vents, temp dependant! Very deep noise and quite loud!

Thanks in advance,

Mike

I had this some years ago and it was the fan touching the pollen filters in the bulkhead.
The fan bearings wear and allow more float and eventually touch.

I remember filing the pollen filter plastic surround to increase the clearance and this cured the problem until new filters required.
Then it needs to be done again.

Spot on John, just checked and the spout on the filter is rubbing on the fan blades, probably only when its running up to speed and wabbling the max from its central axis, hence only lasting a second or so! Can hardly feel the play but can see a scuffing on the fan so I've filed the pollen filter spout down about 1 or 2mm. Hopefully I wont hear the noise when shes out this weekend!
