Dash speakers

i have a2002 car with just standard dash speakers no others, if I swap them for Bose will I notice a difference?

I have Bose and in the 987 they don't get a good write-up. Seen quite a few comments about people swapping Bose out for something better. Dynaudio is one brand

If your question is about swapping only the dash speakers because those are all you have, I am not sure it has been answered. Not sure if your 2002 Boxster is pre or post facelift (post has glovebox and glass rear screen). Sound system specs differed slightly between the two, but all had 3 optional levels of sound system (other than the engine of course). First was basic (originally with choice of cassette or CD system). Second was "Sound package plus" with extra speakers in the doors and a separate amp in the front compartment. Third was Bose, with different speakers in the doors and in the facelift models at least, more speakers mounted behind the driver and passenger seats.

So just swapping the dash speakers for different ones is a different proposition from installing a complete Bose system. Not sure which best fits your question, but to me the engine sound is better than any of them! Hope that helps.

Yes all I have is dashboard speakers my car is facelift model, I don't listen to music very often but when I do I'd like it to be a fuller sound.
I'm thinking I might have to consider fitting door speakers is this a difficult job, I know I'll need new door cards but its the wiring that might be a problem

Don't use Bose speakers without a Bose amp - it really is a case of them being designed to work together. Replace instead with a pair of Alpines. See the photos of the procedure in my Flickr album:

Am I going to get the bottom end though from just dashboard speakers or do I need doors as well

You'll certainly get some - I don't believe there is any crossover that would restrict the bottom end. The door speakers (Sound Plus option) are actually subs - don't know what the crossover point is but its very low so you can hardly hear if they are actually working! An alternative is fitting a sub kit under the roll hoops - there's a company in the US that makes a kit to do this.

Another question, I've seen a rear sub unit on eBay but it has the wrong coloured carpet, is the carpet on my exiting rear storage compartment the same size and could it come off to replace the one on the sub unit

I added door speakers to my 986. Something similar to the pic below.
