Dash trim removal problem.........

After struggling to get the right hand dash panel out and breaking a couple of hidden tabs on the rear, it would appear you need to take the steering wheel off to get to the hidden screws. If so, I'll do that to remove the left hand piece.

However the problem I've got is that now having freed all the switches, I find that the immobiliser key socket is glued into the cowling. I want to carbon vynil this piece and to try and do it in situ will make a tricky job near impossible. I'm worried about damaging the socket - any bright ideas ?

You know I did this pretty recently whilst removing a dash and I can't remember any nasty screws but the steering wheel and indicator assembly did come of first so maybe they just looked easy by the time I got there.
