Dashboard bulbs

Does anyone know what type of bulbs are used in the Dashboard for the main illumination ? Clarks Garage has an excellent guide to replacing the bulbs but I suspect the reference's given refer to US bulbs. I have a couple of days off work and thought I'd have a go at replacing mine as they are starting to get a little on the dim side.

Howard.

Hi Howard,

If it's an oval dash 944, the main illumination are 12volt, 504 2watt bulbs, you'll need 3 of them. Be very careful taking out the instrument cluster!

I bought some Bosch 3w 504 bulbs from Halfords, which look well made and do the trick nicely. I wouldn't go anymore than 3watts though, otherwise you risk melting the reflectors and other parts near the bulb.

Ha ! stupid me, forgot to say it was an Oval Dash [&o]

Thanks for the reply Marv, I read on Clarks that 2W seemed to be the standard but 4W caused heat issues, and so 3Wseems to be the way to go.

Like most, my dashboard lighting could well do with improving - I'd be interested to see what's in there at the moment as the handbook says originals are 1.2W...also a chance to check the condition of the prisms.
