Dashboard creaking

Hi, new to the Form,

Has anyone experienced a creaking front windscreen ?

I have had the front screen windscreen replaced 3 times by Autoglass and had 2 new screens, but the creaking continues !

My last visit to Autoglass revealed, so they say, as I never got to see it, that the dashboard has split where it meets the windscreen and that this is the source of the creaking noise.

I have spoken to Porsche Cambridge, where it is being serviced soon, but they have never heard of a fault like that.

Any advise would be greatly received.

My Porsche is a 03 Reg 996 Carrera.

Hi,

I had a new screen from Autoglass two years ago and had to have a second as the first screen 'creaked'.

Basically, they didnt seem to 'seal' it properly.

They said it was a problem with the car, but the second fitment didnt have the same noises as the first, so it was not the car.

I thought it could well be the screen, which is not a 'porsche' screen (made by the same manuafacture as the orginal). Who knows?

If you have the full leather interior which includes the A pillars they can often creak where the black plastic over the side air vents meets the leather of the A pillar at both ends of the dashboard . What I have done is slide a piece of hard silicone strip or hard pvc down into these side joints so it just shows above the black plastic and all is now quiet. It may not be the same problem but it is a quick fix and worth a try.

I have 996 C4 with full leather, windscreen used to creak and drive me crazy!!!
Had all dash apart ,speakers out, glovebox out, sprayed all inside with WD40 etc etc
What seemed to solve it however was a smear of silicone grease all round and underneath the windscreen rubbers. Did this two years ago and no noise ever since
Its a cheap easy fix if it works for you

Hi,

If anybody elase is having the problem of a creaking windscreen, then my 10 year old son worked it out where Autoglass, Porsche Cambridge and an independant specialist could not.

Autoglass siad it was a split dashboard, after 2 attempts.
Porsche Cambridge did not know and were not very interested in fixing it.
The independant specialist said it was where the leather and plastic dashboard meets and it was normal, even after having another new screen and teflon tape all round along with anti squeaking kits.

My 10 year old son, who is able to stand up in the front and listen to the top area of the windscreen, said "it is coming from here Daddy !"

I put some WD40 between the top rubber seal on the outside of the car where the galss meets the car frame and it has completly gone, I have now put some clear grease on using a recycled plastic food pot, cut up to run between the seal and the car body and nothing since.

I am just amazed at the lack of attention to detail of most mechanics and the phrase of "that's just normal mate" after all it is a Porsche !!!!

There is always a reason for things and I am just glad that I did not listen to them and keep suffering with the noise, which was very irritating and eventully found a solution.
