Dashboard lights

Ever since I've had this SC (4yrs) I've noticed and wondered why the dashboard lights were so variable. Some days they'd be bright , other days I couldn't read the clock. I kinda regarded it as part of the cars "character".

A couple of days ago I got in the car at night to drive somewhere and there was no light at all. All the other car electrics seemed to be ok. I just couldn't read any of the dials so I presumed it was a fuse somewhere which could be fixed at some indeterminate date in the future :)

I wondered if the side lights light was working so I quickly pushed in the organ stop a notch to see if that worked. I then noticed some flickering of the dashboard lights. On giving it a waggle I discovered what I suspect is a standard feature (well it is on mine). Rotatating the organ stop controls the light level. I appear to have turned it off completely.

Is this normal and am I just a dork ? I blame it on having only used it as a summer driver for the past few years !

This is perfectly normal - the organ stop light switch also acts as a variable instrument light switch.

lol....excuse the loud chuckles from Enfield but.........what is the point of the rheostat anyway, it's hardly like the instruments are equipped with minature suns. An advantage of fitting LEDs to the instruments is that the current drain is lowered and the rheostat no longer has any effect. See my post on LEDs

You should spend 1/2 an hour one day going through the handbook - can be useful![;)]
If you haven't got one I could sort you out copy (SC, not 3.2).

Let us know once you've sussed out the ejector seat operation[:D].

[] OK - I have two ackshully. One in the car for instant referral but heck who reads manuals. Once I'd worked out what the key was for I was away. So far this year I've mastered the H&V controls - had to - it's my first winter using the car as a daily driver , and the dashboard light - result !

Next I'll be doing gearbox rebuilds

<faint echoes of laughter from the direction of JZM>

As for the ejector seat - Martin - fancy a ride ? :)
