dashboard top removal

how easy or hard is it to remove the top section of the dashboard?.. this is the bit which is covered in vinyl and goes over the top of the clocks and things directly under the windscreen...

i can only see a couple of screws, one in the lower corner by the drivers door/fuel flap opener, and a couple along the top near the windscreen and through the vent..

Im guessing its also in with clips, so any advice on removing and re-fitting it (without me having to remove the windscreen, as im not interested in that [;)] ) would be great..

Ben

One screw either end of the dash, iirc behind a plastic cover. 5 screws on top holding on the windscreen vent.

Then you need to remove the air vent in the centre of the dash, two clips that you push down and then pull the vent out (three hand help!)
Sitting in the passenger seat there is then a nut to the right of the aperture left by the centre vent which is a right pain in the ar5e to get to, really small spanner 10mm spanner I think.
Undo this and the dash top will come out.

Be warned of scraped knuckles!!!

cheer's rob, i took a look on pelican parts and pet but it didn't really have a lot of info on mounting hardware.. hopefully i can get this out and complete my devious retrim plan's [;)]

Ben, the dashboard top was removed not long before you bought the car from me, when the windscreen was replaced, so at least nothing should be seized etc. Mind you, the poor soul from the windscreen company hated me and the car after that episode: he phoned the OPC in Edinburgh about six times for help and it took him around four hours...

Thank goodness he thought to ask for advice and not just dive in and end up breaking something, hey !!

he did crack the front of the oil/petrol gauge if I remember correctly?..
I replaced it for about a tenner from ebay
at least he remembered to connect the aerial again though, i think leaving that off is an old porsche favorite!
will post some pics once its done (assuming i dont change my mind again)
