Dashcam

Any recommended dash cams for a boxster 981? Looking for something as discreet as possible...

I've been using the "Transcend" version and that seems to fit the bill very well.

Clive.

We've been using E-Prance Novatek GW1s in our cars for over 18 months. In spite of being just £39 (less the cost of SD card), they've proved reliable and capable of achieving excellent results at night, as well as during the daytime. They can either be permanently installed or temporarily mounted as you prefer. You can mount one or two or more, to cover all angles as needed.

The units are very light, physically very small (112 mm L x 33 mm W x 45 mm H (excluding mount)), and can be mounted discreetly behind or at the side of the rear-view mirror using the supplied suction cup mount. We mentioned these devices in our R31 Region write-up in the most recent Porsche Post along with a pic showing it installed in the Boxster BTW.

If you're interested, there's some sample footage from a recent trip in the Boxster here*. Try pausing the video at 14:53:43 just as the blue Meriva goes past. You'll see you can read the Vauxhaul's registration plate (WX02 OET) and see that there's a driver and passenger in the front even though we were both travelling at about 55 MPH.

The only issue is remembering to keep your windows clean at all times.... [:)]

*FOOTNOTE: The video is hosted on Flickr and I've noticed that their encoding has introduced a lot of compression artefacts significantly reducing its quality. It also makes it it difficult to shuttle backwards and forwards. If anyone wants a raw .MOV video file straight out of the dashcam, PM me and I'll give you a link to it via my Dropbox.
