Dastek - Unichip ??

Hi,

I booked my 1994 C2 into Dastek for a Unichip in a couple of weeks, £399 + VAT.

The company have a good reputation (Dalgety Bay in Fife), I was out at a RR day a few Months back in my Mitsy Evo7 FQ, impressed with what they knew, the amount of remaps they have done and the results.

Having read some positive posts on here about other remaps, I am hoping this is going to be money well spent as the car feels very sluggish under 5k revs, flat spots and judders a lot in traffic - hoping to get a nice torque band from 3k and above.

The car also has a full FabSpeed exhaust system, decat and uprated induction - the guy in Dastek said they can map the car against the mods, should make a nice difference.

They offer a 30 day money back on the item, fingers crossed it makes a nice difference.

Cheers

Sure, no problems, will post the results up when I get them.

The engineer I was chatting to knew his stuff, said they will do a RR before, fix any issues, ensure I have a healthy BHP/Torque before hand and then fit hte chip/map - takes between 4 to 6 hours.

I love the car, but coming from an Evo and BMW M Coupe, am missing the power delivery but am loving the looks, sounds (FabSpeed is awesome) and handling - great car!!!

Where are you based, in Scotland?

I've had a wee chat with the guys at Dastek too, about a chip for my '44 Turbo. They certainly seem to know their stuff, despite not being Porsche specialists.

Let us all know how you get on!

Perhaps there is nothing wrong with the car, just feels sluggish and slow compared to the Evo and Z3M I owned before it.

Am sure the remap will help though.

Cheers

I've got to say, I'm with Maurice on this one. £399+VAT will afford you a live remap by someone very much in the know about the 993 engine.

Will have to wait and see, post up the results once they have been completed inc printout from RR data sheet.

Like I said before, Dastek have an excellent reputation up here, great feedback from friends who have been and had remaps done.

They promise a 30 day money back if not happy, I will know within 5 minutes of getting the car back, hoping for a smoother power delivery with a little more torque low down, also think the car is running a little rich.

Cheers

Hi....

I only bought the car last Friday [:D] , so it's been like this since I owned it. To be total honest with you, this 993 is a total different beast from my previous cars, still getting used to it. I have read various posts on Remaps etc, most people comment on better torque lower down and a smoother ride, this is what I am after.

I love the car to bit esp in relation to the sound (that Fabspeed and Decat is incredible), the looks and the handling, never owned another car like it. However, the drop in performance is a little more than I expected, not to say it's a slow car, just the ones I had previous were a lot faster and delivered the power in a total diff way (Evo had grunt from 3k revs and the MC had a smooth power delivery from 3k all the way to 7.5k). I just need to adapt to a new way of driving, more gears and power higher up.

As well as the Remap, just bought a Rensport Short Shift from Carnewal, lots of posts on here saying this was a good upgrade item (the throw in 993 is way too much IMO).

The Z3M is faster to 60, faster to 100, faster in the 1/4 mile, better interior and far rarer.

The 993 has better brakes (mine has the turbo upgrade), better handling (but still wouldn't keep up either in a straight line or track, not enough grunt) and looks awesome.

My old Evo7 would piss on the 993 as well as the turbo version, no problems but had shite interior, bad image and they are everywhere. The AYC, active diff and the bremob brakes on the Evo were amazing, fastest point to point car I have owned.

I stupidly ran a Z3M for two years myself, so I would say the performance is directly comparable. The major difference for me was sitting within a body shell that did not flex like a ripe banana .. [>:]

cheers, Maurice [:D]

When did you get rid of your Z3M?? I had the coupe version (very rare) by the way, I assume you were talking about the Roadster which suffered really bad from flex....

Just waiting to get my private plate switched from the M Coupe to the 993 before I can sell it - was a lovely car though, the sound of the 3.2 straight 6 M engine was good but no where near as the 993, that sound is to die for [:D]

An interesting read as I'm a former z3mc owner and now looking at 993's! Presume you haven't tried any other non-varioram 993's to compare to yours?

I had a Dastek on my previous car. While it was working ok I wasn't impressed with it as a long term solution and would be concerned with long term reliability.

I'd much prefer to have a well known pro do a remap on a 993.
