Day trip to France 14th April 2007

After discussing with several London regulars at Ace Cafe it seems Saturday, 14 April is the favoured date as 9th June is just a week before Le Mans and all going to LeMans would not like to cross the channel a week before. Those not going to LeMans can still do this second trip if they like...

Please drop a note here or drop a PM to me or r20 email address if interested.

Just did a day quote on Sea France today with Promo code: OFDAY

and it is coming to £27 day return! This was for 6:50am or a 8:15am departure and a return of either 7:30pm or 9pm.

Tunnel is working out to some £54 return...

Note: the booking will have to be done by you but I'll ring Sea France (if that is what we choose and Eurotunnel) and see if we can have a different promo code for a group booking; Not sure if we will get further 10% off as PCGB members on top of this...

I think an 8:15am departure (if ferry) is a more sane option as it takes about 2 hours to get down to Dover from London.

Is the 9pm return better to make the most of it and also be able to have dinner over there?

I've been following this thread and I recon I could get a pass for the 14th April.

Would be great to meet up with the R20 & R25 guys and a 'brisk' tour of the french roads is well overdue.

From a time point of view, the tunnel would be my prefered crossing route. Less loading on/off time, but no where to get a fatboy breakfast... so not fussed.. will go with the flow.

Add me to the "99% sure" list of attendees.

Add my name to the list. Ready for a Saturday off and need to stock up on vino. Would prefer using the train for two reasons.
1/. Train not affected by weather.
2/. It's a lot quicker to get into France.
But we'll go with the flow and let the majority rule come into play.
Won't have the 997GT3 RS so I'll have to use Louise's Boxster S.

I should be ok to do this, my car being LHD it will be perfect ! Also would prefer tunnel as my car is very low.

I'm confirmed.

Time is tight on a day trip, so for the sake of another £27 I prefer train (less money saved by missing fat boy breakfast...)

If we can get 15 or more cars, then we can get a group discount.

Already on the case, have drop a note to Eurotunnel...awaiting response. Discount are banded into 15-19; 20-29 then 30+ cars...

Yes we all had a nice day in France. Appreciate the effort made to organise this. Sorry you had to leave early Des to get the Horlicks on for the wrinklies.

See you soon

Superb laugh. Thanks to all for the organising.

If anyone is interested I will be doing a guided tour of Ace Café next meeting. I will expect you to wait for 20 minutes for my arrival and we will then spend 10 minutes walking around the perimeter. I will obviously spend some time in pointing out the coffee grout bin.........and nothing else. [;)]

Belinda, Peter & I had a great run back from St Valéry - we set the sat nav to avoid all toll roads and found some very nice bits of road as a result.

Don't forget Ace Café is translated as Ace Cafe, they are very particular about that...

Thanks for the warning about the M20 road works; after trying an alternate route in the opposite direction for 5 minutes, my satnav gave up and told me to just go back to M20; while stuck in traffic, I realised the decision was made because the satnav wanted to go into sleep mode. When we reached home, the charge was just enough to open the front door after which the sleep mode commenced till late morning [:D]

Thank you to all involved in organising a great day yesterday, especially Mathew and Kish. It's good to drive on some empty roads for a change although perhaps I'll need to upgrade to an RS to keep up with you lot!!

It was good to meet you all, we very much enjoyed your company and look forward to the next one.
Regards
Ivor & Elaine Heading
