Daylight running lights

Not sure as I have PCM but if they are listed as DRL's then maybe there is a fault, do your rear lights come on at the same time?

My 987 CR has daylight running lamps which you set on or off through the settings menu. But if I turn them on they put the headlights on as well. On this basis they are a complete waste of time as I might as well junk the DRL's and just use the light switch. Can they be set to operate on their own? (I only have the basic computer. I think the more advanced installation has some menu options)

On mine, only the LED lights in the front PU come on for DRLs. The rear lights don't come on. I haven't got Sport Chrono, so don't have the feature to switch them on or off in the PCM, but there are coding options in the Front Control Unit. You can probably get the coding changed to get what you want. I'll plug my PIWIS in in the next couple of days to see what the options are and let you know.

To my understanding, the LEDs at the front of the CR on non-Xenon cans are the sidelights. DRL just gets the car to automatically turn the headlights on whenever you drive.

Sorry to disappoint you JohnCR but duncanireland is right.

Since it seems the majority desire would be to have just the horizontal LED lights as the day running lights, it would be interesting to hear if someone has achieved this and whether their fix is accessible to all.

So you Cayman R guys with Halogen lights don't have the big round LED lights in the PU? (What used to be fogs on my Gen 1 Cayman). FWIW, there are 2 coding settings for DRL. One is in General Coding, and is just Mandatory Y/N, and the other is a separate coding nenu which gives options. (I only just found out I can switch them on and off by the OBC!) Whatever setting I use, I can't get the rear lights to illuminate.

This is absolutely correct

As Andy says... My Boxster Spyder was the same.

On the other hand, my 981 has the LEDs on all the time.

Thanks folks. It does seem a rather pointless function then, without xenons. On the other hand I suppose it could be useful in my old age in case I forget to turn the lights on at night[:)]

Another thing to add to the mods list for when the warranty runs out.

Having directional turning Xenons, Chrono and PCM I can select or deselect the DRL's on the settings column stalk these lights are in the fog lights on my Gen2 S. I think that the LED's are the sidelights when they are switched on this also brings on the rear lights.

As a note on the subject of running lights, Zunsport have asked if members/owners may be interested in having grilles manufactured with integrated DRL's? They would need to be wired into the car's electrical system or connected to a switch fitted in the car. Opinions on this? May be more applicable with the Gen1 cars and their owners.

Kevan, the idea of running lights in the grills is an attractive one, but I think I would be too concerned about the wiring to give it a go. I do not particularly want more lights, just trying to make more use than the ones I have.
