De-Cat and MOT

Is it possible to pass the MOT emissions test if the car has de-cat pipes fitted?

I think the car has Dansk mufflers and exhaust cross pipes with Lambda sensor replacing the Birschoff type catalytic convertor.

Any info would be much appreciated!

I would have to say that it would be highly unlikely indeed - however most MOT stations do offer a free retest within 7 days - so you could always leave the cat bypass fitted and then see if it does manage to pass.

If it does - then great news and no worries until next year.

However, if it does fail you will have to refit the catalytic converter (not a difficult DIY job) and then take it back for the retest. They would normally carry out the retest on the area which it failed (in this instance the emissions) - which it should now pass (with the cat fitted).

Have you had a re-map to match in with the cat bypass system - as the only potential issue I could perhaps see might be the effect this would have once the cat was refitted - but as it would only be a temporary measure it shouldn't be too much of an issue.

I am of course assuming that you have a total 100% cat bypass system fitted rather than some of the high flow 200 cell cat systems that are manufactured.

Hope that makes sense

Apparantly it's a stroll in the park for a healthy 993 to pass the emissions test with bypass pipes fitted and looking at my figures over the years this seems entirely plausible, provided, as D Ward suggests, that it has been re-mapped to suit.

I would give it a go first, got to worth £45 to possibly avoid a lot of hastle, even less if you get one of the cheap specials

Definately possible for a 993 to pass the test with out any kats fitted, I see one originally from Dubai once a year and it's close to the lambda limits but fine in all other respects, although this car i think from memory has the manual CO potentiometer installed as opposed to the oxygen seneor (closed loop set up)
