Ok this is the only thread I'll do like this and I'm only doing it as there is one in the North of England section, and I want to show this sort of work is being done in the southern hemisphere too! A rare car some of you will appreciate too![Wink ;) ;)](data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7)
This is a car that Gary http://www.refinedreflections.co.uk and I http://www.envyvaleting.co.uk turned out yesterday and for me it was a very proud moment....
This was the car I've been looking forward to since going to quote 6 weeks or so ago. I did a quick test panel with the PC to see if things could be improved upon and took a picture of it today...It was done to see if anything could be improved and not to be perfect.
and if you look very closely you can just make it out on the left....
The car had been involved in a fall out incident, been to a "work" approved body shop where it appeared to have been wet sanded ALL over, the end result was a phone call to me to quote on turning it around into something desirable again.
When I took the PTG measurements I found VERY thick paint indeed and obviously it had a lot of paint in its life. This made me confidant great progress could be made.
Today, with Gary (RR) with me we went to the customers house and I couldn't wait to see his face. I just knew the transformation that could be achieved would be out of this world. I'm pretty sure Gary was shocked by what had been done to the car so far....
Car was jetwashed etc in the usual fashion.
The car was then dried and clayed and we could see what we were dealing with...
As you can see, 1 word...shocking
Next Gary got out his very flashy new PTG which is the composite version and it also records individual layers. This proved to be an eye opener and now I'm saving for 1 for me as my PTG reading were nice and thick but it did not highlight just how THIN the clearcoat was on the Porsche, going very carefully was the only option and Gary did a test panel..
and this was how it looked on a worked on section
Pretty impressive eh:thumb:
Other defects included wet sanding marks UNDER the paint, cat claws and long deep scratches which there was not enough clearcoat to polish out.
Gary got on with the paint correction with the Metabo whilst I busied myself with other parts of the detail, wheels, tyres, glass. Cleaned the leather before
and after
Not the best transformation I've ever achieved but leather was very cracked and worn but it certainly appreciated some Gliptone!
After what seemed like an eternity it was all coming together and we could start to clear up the dust, wax the door shuts, clean and QF the hood, polish the tail pipe, rejuvinate the rubbers and so on.
Wax today was Best of Show applied by pad, and the afters are simply stunning and we were all blown away to be honest. I knew it'd be good! Enjoy it as we did!
and last but not least
You have to agree, amazing.
My thanks go to Gary for his help, his guidance and machining skills, tips and so on.
He will have his own set of pics of defects to add to this plus the BMW we did yesterday.
Now must get saving for the composite all singing and dancing PTG[
]
Thanks for looking
Tim
