Dead S2 for sale

Graham

Sorry to hear that. I remember your car from the Whitby trip last October. I hope that the local independant that you are taking advice from is not that garage in Wakefield......... Have you spoken to Strasse in Leeds - they might be able to help?

Ouch, bad luck Graham. [:(]

Surely a S/H engine of any sort will raise the value of the car to far more than £700 + cost of engine.

I hope you find a buyer or a good solution

Just out of couriousity - where did you get the interior alloy trim from? I know that Porscheshop sells some of the stuff..

Rotten news.

I see what Paul is saying with regard to a replacement engine but know from recent experience that labour charges can mean expenditure can quickly outstrip the value of the car.

We all stand open mouthed reading adds for cars where the advertised value is less than the reported recent expenditure but it is a fact of life with an old car. The other problem is that the expenditure never stops - there is always something else that is approaching the end of its design life and will need replacing.

I am assuming you are just fed up with the car and want shot of it?

See http://www.prestigeparts.co.uk/944interior.htm

The silver bits (new) are worth close on half of what you are asking for the car.

Are the ones they sell just standard ones sprayed ??.....

I assume they are as I can't imagine anyone having special tooling made for such a low production item.

I'm in two minds over the look. I would perhaps suggest that colour matched to the car they could look very contemporary - mine already are as I have a black car [;)].

Porsche did fit silver to a 968 show car; so you could say that it was an original equipment upgrade.

Obviously, if you were doing it you need to do the whole lot and (bought new as a replacement) this isn't going to be cheap. It was that cost that put me off trying it.

I personally prefer them black, i had a 944 with the wood dash kit fitted which i took off and fitted some carbon look stickers which i didnt like either so took that off as well and left them black. In grahams S2 (well mine now) i think they would look better black as the silver just looks out of place with the burgandy interior !!

I have the silver door handles, window switch surround and door pop ups (as well as a silver replacement gearstick). I think they go well with my cars exterior colour (zermatt silver) and interior trim (black leather) as well as lifting that classic 80's all black and slightly gloomy interior. I may well at some point get the dash and centre console trims other expenditure allowing !

What type of spray did you use? I painted mine but the spots and bits that are in use often don't last very long..

They were already on the car painted. I have painted the door handles /gearknob centre with 5 wheel silver paint and they stayed on fine, 8 years infact !!

Who is the independant in Wakefield and do you not recommend? I looked at a couple of 944's recently at Auto-Graph and would appreciate any guidance.

I was referring to Autograph. Their descriptions of the cars seem a bit over the top to me and the prices seem high. I get the impression that they are a garage that sells a lot of Porsches, rather than an independant specialist. That's only my opinion though ! I supose if you know your Porsches then it shouldnt be a problem

That's sound advice as I trawl pistonheads, etc! I am beginning to think that a private sale is a better option, provided one has a 'fighting fund' to avoid regurgitating the poor thing after six months.
