Dealer discounts - will it be possible on the new 718 Cayman?

Hi Guys,

I'm hoping to buy the new 718 Cayman when it's released sometime this year.

This is going to be my first Porsche so I don't have any experience with the official Porsche centres.

As this is going to be a brand new model do you think I'll be able to haggle over the price of the car, or get some options thrown in for free?

Thanks,
Richard.

Hi Richard,

in my experience (now bought 4 new Porsche cars) getting a discount or haggling falls on deaf ears, simply down to the fact that most OPC's can sell their allocations without having to work too hard ;) we're all gluttons for their wares! Best you can hope for would be a key ring or two and some kind of freebie from the drivers collection.

It was a shock to me that the OPC wouldn't play, having been able to negotiate each time I've bought other brands (including Audi, BMW and VW from the same stable).

One thing to be aware of, not sure on others experience, despite best efforts the configurator price and what you actually pay are usually two different numbers - hence why you'll see used cars for sale at close to configurator cost.

I too will be looking with interest at the 718 Cayman and see if I'll go that route or 911.2 (which I've yet to test drive) to date I've preferred the Cayman each time I've driven previous generations of base level 911's.

Regardless I don't think you'll be disappointed and I'm sure the new 4 pot turbo 718's will be excellent.

Thanks for the information Colin, I won't try it and embarrass myself then!!

Why are there price differences between the configurator and what you end up paying? Seems pointless having the prices on the configurator if they're not reflected in the showroom.

You may get a set of mats and goody bag of stuff, flowers for the wife etc but they will charge for number plates etc and they won't have GB on so you may wish to buy new ones for travelling in Europe....

The only way you will get a real discount is by buying a RHD for export in EU .

France is not the cheapest but easiest being 21 miles away .

Hi

Getting a discount out of a Dealership is not good but I have just brought myself a Boxster and the Dealership

throw in the Swissvax aftercare kit worth £500 and also anything unto £50 from the selection range which I found

odd but I was not going to say no thanks for even when I use Zymol on my Porsche its a freebe at the end of the day

but the car I had to pay full price for including all the extras I added to the car.

I would say ask but don't be upset if they say no but there no harm in asking as you never will know till you do go for it

and I hope you enjoy the 718 Cayman when you finally receive it they are get car as I had a Gen 1 Cayman for over 7 Years

great fun and I was sad when it went but I have a new toy to look forward to when I collect in a few weeks time.

Yours Kevin.

My wife is about to order a macan this week, I too was wondering if shopping around would be waste of time, looks like it will.

She has built her car on the configurator and added lots of spec, will she get the car for this price or is there more to it?

I exchanged some emails with one of our members who lives in Italy and he told me it is quite normal to get a discount on the sports cars but not the 4X4's and for a discount in the dealerships for anything a 15% discount is often given just for asking.
