Being a new porsche owner and being from a backgroud of Capri ownership I am curious on what spares for the 944 are still available from Porsche themselves. If you walk into a ford dealer and ask for a Capri part you get laughed at, half the staff have no idea how to work the microfiche. Even if you have the part number not many parts are available now anyway. Is it the same script the Porsche or are they better, are the interested in the older cars or only the stuff thats still for sale on the forecourt? What are my chances of getting a new sunroof seal or am I best to try the likes of east kent trim supplies for a "close as" alternative?

Hi Stuey,
Porsche still make the majority of replacement parts, and will have the S/R seal give your local OPC a call or call Glen at OPC Leicester

Plus one for Glenn at PC Leicester, he'll be at Rutland next month to meet up with the 944 owners.
Check out the spares FAQ, but put simply try Porsche first, recommended suppliers second and then places like ebay last.
There's also the link to Porsche's parts diagrams and manuals there, so you can call with the part numbers ready.

With our local OPC it is best to have the parts numbers ready, they don't understand the older cars and you end up on the phone for ages. They also say that you can't return them if they are wrong, but this seems to depend on who you talk to. So definitely download the parts catalogue.
I find it is always worth checking the OPC first as they are often the cheapest!

what spares for the 944 are still available from Porsche themselves.
The answer to that is "most parts are available". Porsche even periodically manufacture some new spares for the cars if old stock becomes exhausted. Prices are often "reasonable" but sometimes "daft". As a rule of thumb, ALWAYS ask Porsche for the price of any part first and then if you don't like the number you're given, go hunting elsewhere.
Porsche will often be cheaper than the alternative suppliers as for Porsche-specific parts they have to buy them from Porsche and then add a margin to make a profit. "Generic" parts may be cheaper elsewhere.
It is also worth mentioning that PCGB membership will normally get you a discount from Porsche on parts. If you're planning on doing even a small amount of work on the car those discounts rapidly exceed the cost of your club membership.

OPC Hatfield is also very good at 944 parts. I had loads of body and trim parts from them in 2012.
Yes, Richard at Hatfield is good. Also Mark in retail parts at Porsche Reading who has often gone to extraordinary lengths for me to ensure that I get the right part.
I won't go past my Local OPC ( Glasgow) the guy have done me a great many favors in sourcing parts for me. Always Always phone the OPC first. And don't trust adds on flea bay offering sun visor clips and other bits of trim as the OPC is about half of what that particular beaker wants for them.

That is absolutely spot on advice - my local OPC (Cambridge) is excellent.try Porsche first, recommended suppliers second and then places like ebay last.
You don't even have to find your way to the parts counter as they bring the items out to you in reception, not quite on a silver tray but not far off.
And they always make nice comments on having a "classic" 944 on their forecourt.
Porsche Centre Kendal (Andrew & Jonathan) top guys and you get posh coffee even if only picking up a tuppence part, i would say 80/90 % parts still available, often very reasonable, as already said some "specialist" buy from OPC (Official Porcshe Centre) and then mark it up.
Also beware of e bayers claiming stuff is no longer available, i watched a set of new floor mats get bid up to £130+ the seller quoted no longer available which may the case with some colours but these were black.
£70 Odd quid at the main dealer !
Google Porsche PET which is the parts catalouge, you can download it free gratis from the Porsche Great Britain Website..........dead handy.
Ask on here also as some of us have boxes of bits in our garages []
Loads of specialist breakers also, some way better than others, ask here first for bona fide advice, some of them are sharks and would ask more than you can get for new as they prey on people's ignorance regarding Porsche spares and prices.

Have Leicester OPC taken over from Exeter OPC as the best option now?
I'd say so, as Glenn is usch a 944 enthusiast. If you come to Rutland, Simon, you'll meet him. It's about as near as we can get to you! []

Totally agree with James that Andrew and Jonathan are excellent and go out of their way to help us.
Regarding parts I saw a boot badge advertised on eBay for £179 plus postage. I rang Andrew and it was still available in Germany for £95 plus Vat!!
As it was for a Limited Edition 964 Anniversary car that was only produced for one year in 1993 it gives to prove that they do carry a wide and varied range of parts []
Thanks everyone who responded sounds like a Porsche are a hell of a lot better at supporting old cars that Ford are. Will give my local OPC a call then and sort out a sunroof seal. Also just received my membership pack through so a full fledged member now to will see if it gets me my first discount!
