Next R5 Event
The next R5 event is our 8 December Club Night, at The Deanwater Hotel, starting at 2000. And don't forget, if it would suit you to eat in the hotel restaurant, please join the dozen-or-so other members who do that on a regular basis, gathering about an hour earlier. (See also "Forthcoming Events" below.)
Newsletter
Apologies for the absence of Newsletters in October and November. Other commitments, including an overdue holiday and surgery on my other, arthritic shoulder, took precedence. In the mean time I have devised a better way of creating the mailing groups from the Club database, which means they should always be up-to-date.
Classic Servicing
Imagine my alarm when, earlier this year, with our 928 S4 due for a cam-belt change, the independent Porsche specialist that has maintained the car throughout the 12 years we have owned it announced it was no longer able to undertake work on cars of its age. What to do? Should I tackle it myself (not a job for the feint-hearted), or entrust it to another, unfamiliar independent?
By chance this was just when PC Wilmslow launched its "˜Classic Servicing and Repair' service announced in my April Newsletter. So, after a "˜phone call to Service Adviser Alan Dyde, during which I was pleased to learn amongst other things that the Centre still has on its staff two technicians who "˜cut their teeth' on the 928, the car was duly booked in. Once work was underway, Alan kept us informed of progress, etc and I was invited to take a look for myself on a couple of occasions, nothing else untoward was found and the bill - which, as 928 aficionados will understand, included replacing the water pump - was less than I have seen quoted for the latter job alone!
FORTHCOMING EVENTS
8 December Club Night
At The Deanwater Hotel; featuring a slide show entitled "A Kenya Safari", accompanied by complimentary coffee (or tea) and mince pies. In the course of the evening I will also be presenting the Vincent Mansueto Memorial trophy to member Lindsay Gray, whose stunning 356A Cabriolet was both the Class 1 and overall winner of our 2010 Regional Concours. Lindsay, whose car was also amongst those displayed at the November 27 "Porsche Racing Legends" event at PC Wilmslow, where she met up with earlier owner John Watson, will retain the trophy for a year.
12 January Club Night
At The Deanwater Hotel. This, our first try at a post-Christmas celebratory evening, will comprise dinner - to be selected from a special, limited selection Tudor Bar menu - at £14.50 for a starter, main course & coffee or £17.50 with dessert (inclusive in each case of a modest gratuity), followed by our customary Regulars Rewards draw. PC Wilmslow Dealer Principal Steve Webb and his wife will be our guests, and I am sure we will be able to get Steve to tell us something about Porsche AG's plans for 2011. Bookings to me please, by "˜phone or e-mail, followed by a cheque (payable to me) to "The Dales" Dunwood Lane, Longsdon, Staffordshire Moorlands, ST9 9QW for the appropriate amount.
