Decent 996 car mats?

Hi All!

Just wondered if anyone has found a decent drivers side car mat for their 996? I have the standard Porsche ones, but they slip forward and obscure the clutch pedal which is really annoying. I tried some cheaper ones from eBay, but they curled up at the front end and affected both the break and clutch pedals. Any ideas?

Cheers,

Neil.

Yeah, there should be two velcro tabs on the carpet just in front of the seat, the genuine mats have the opposing velcro tabs in the same position.

Ah, that may explain the problem - my 996 doesn't have velcro on the carpet, so there's nothing for the mats to grip to.

So standard Porsche mats will never work for me by the sound of things. I wonder what else I can use?

Just get a couple of these. They just screw in to the floor carpet. The mats come with a Velcro pad on the underside which stick to them. About £2 each from an OPC

Neil,

I purchased Boxster mats for my car as I didn't need the rears & they came with the items labelled 2 in Richards post.....

However, the quality of the mats is not as good as the factory fitted ones that are currently in the car...IMHO.....

Thanks Paul.

After doing a bit of research today, I noticed another potential reason why my existing ones don't seem to stay in place. My 996 is a cabriolet with the Bose kit. It seems there are different shaped mats for Cabrios and Targas and also different shaped ones for those with Bose and without Bose. The mats I have were for a 996 Coupe without Bose - I hadn't realised the difference before!

Having looked at the price though, I think these are something to add to my birthday list this year! [;)]

Hi Neil,

Boxster mats weren't cheap either...... & I'm sure they won't fit a Cab....
I kept hinting they'd be a good xmas pressie but ended up paying for them myself.....[:(]

Well I bought the proper mats (not cheap!!) but they still wouldn't stay in place! The plastic fasteners have nothing to screw into in my car, so unfortunately I was unable to use them. However, I did find the answer! Two 80mm velcro discs with a sticky back. They simply stick to the carpet and then velcro to the underside of the mats. They work a treat and only cost £3.99!
