Decent Quality Battery Charger for 996

I have been looking for a decent battery charger for my 996

I had a look at the one in Costco last week (Approx £50) which looked very good and would more than charge a 911 battery. Only problem was it was saying you need to disconnect the battery before charging ? Surely you can get a charger where you don't have to do this and you can just clip onto the battery terminals ?

Any recommendations for a charger would be welcome

Steve

Hi Steve,
the following link just about covers it:

I use the CTEK 3600 with the connections for the cigarette lighter socket (as many others do). This extra connection has to be purchased seperately.

Hi Steve

this was discussed ages ago I think this should answer your question

I posted way back on this one Steve. I have a charger made by Oxford Products. It will identify cars, motorcycles, jet skis etc and does not require you to disconnect the battery.
Further more it will give you a diagnosis of the state of the battery and is safe to leave on a top up mode (automatically switches to this when charged) over prolonged periods of time.It will topup drain from alarm sysytems etc
Oxford Products sell from Heine Geireke motor cycle stores for less than £50. I have had mine for 2 years plus with no issues, it has been really useful.

ctek chargers are great and can be left connected for extended periods. The same charger can be bought a Lidl at the moment for £12. I have had one of each for several years and there doesnt appear any difference between the two.

why spend more!!!

The new range of Smart Chargers from Ring will also condition the battery. I have recently bought the RSC16 charger which is excellent, and charges the battery quickly before switching to the conditioning cycle.

I have both the ctec and the lidl and to be honest both appear to do the same thing ,as Theo would say worth a punt [:D]

Hi Steve
The most important thing I would suggest is that if the car isnt an everyday drive you keep it plugged in.My battery went flat and had to get the emergency dudes out as I could even get the damn thing[mk1 gt3]started the starter thingy he brought with him.I was told by the dealer that they do this and its better for the computer to keep it fully juiced up.I dont think you need to be spending shed loads of money on a charger.Good luck

Yep i agree

I'm off down the town shortly to see if they have one at Lidl. Will let you all know how i get on later

Yeah eventually

I hadn't realised Lidl had moved in Burton, so when i eventually found it and went in side they hadn't got any left. It seems that particular store gets picked over very quickly

Anyway went to Swadlincote and they have about 8 left, so if you want one hurry!!

Steve

PS will have a play with it after i have finished munching my KFC !

Just to report.

Check the status of the charger this morning and it was indicating full. Turned her over and away she went

Well worth the 12.99 so far. Well done Lidl :D
