Delivery Date

New to the forum, but just one question:

How long did you wait from ordering your new Boxster until delivery?

In my case, ordered a new Boxster 2.7 in August 03, for a delivery date of April 04.

Counting the days.

When you order they should give you a tentative build date (to the nearest month).
When you get to around 3 months before, you have to spec the whole thing and pay more money.
Delivery date is around 4 weeks after build date (as already mentioned); if you have a mid Jan build, you would get it in the second half of Feb.
This assumes all goes well and there is not shortage of parts or an issue with the options you have asked for. Additionally since each car is built to order, if when they are doing the tests on your car, they find a problem, you car goes back to have the issue fixed and another week or two will pass.
Someone who ordered a C4S at the same time as me, for build at the same time as mine, had to wait 2 months longer than me for it to arrive.
This is perhaps the most frustrating part about buying a new Porsche, you have little idea when the bl**dy thing is going to actually turn up. Of course the fact you really want it makes the time go more slowly and the closer it gets, the more the time drags.
Still it' s worth it in the end, and " good things comes to those who wait" .
If a long lead time is quoted, then if you are flexible you can often take a different slot as they become available. This means you may be quoted 12 months but get it in much less. This is fine unless personal circumstances require a certain delivery window.

i have found that if you want a car by a set time if you shop around the OPC' s you can sometimes find one that has a slot available.

eg..i wanted a GT3..two OPC told me books were full and i had missed the boat. tried another and i was third on the list.

infact my name came to the top of the list before i was ready so had to turn down the first slot i was offered[:(]

This is the only drawback with doing the Factory Collection option... It is not until about 2 weeks before you can pick it up that you know for sure when it will be ready for!

Of course they will then hold on to it until YOU are able to collect, but you want it as soon as possible!

Hi Weeeck,

What a name -Does your keyboard stick?

My theory is that there is no such thing as a " Delivery Date" 7 months away.

What there are, are build date slots, and a waiting list to get one.

OPC' s don' t really know for definite how many build dates they are going to get for each model and when they are going to occur. They also don' t know how many on their waiting list are going to drop out, change model, or (cue outraged denials) offer them an incentive to queue jump.

What you therefore have is a best guess that in December you will be allocated a March build date. That is when you provide your spec, and pay the higher, non refundable deposit

It could be worth a ring around other OPC dealers to see if anyone can offer a build date NOW.

I was given a build date of May 2003 straight away in March 2003. The car didn' t turn up til mid-July - but that another story.

My guess would be that your OPC would rather give you a nice surprise than have you pestering him, and you will be offerred a build date - and consequently delivery sooner than you expect.

Tried that, went to another Porsche dealer, asked if I came from the area, which I didn' t, informed me I would have to have a local address for me to order, something to do with Porsche' s way of doing things, bit strange!!!!!!

The joys of motoring.

Interesting

It looks as though, perhaps because 2.7 Boxsters are more popular than other Porsches in Scotland, you may be faced with a longer wait. Quotas could depend on how many more expensive cars a dealer sells

You could try pressing your local OPC for the full picture. How are build date slots coming through at the moment, and how many are on the waiting list ahead of you?

Hopefully someone on this board will have some hard build date info for you from elsewhere in the country.

This is of course the " established" Porsche owners board. You may have more luck with this question on one of the other " Boxster Boards"

Ordered mine in Jan, and the estimated delivery was in Aug/Sept, as there were no more slots available till then. Mid June and I got a call from the OPC to say it would be ready for collection in 3 weeks. Picked up on July 12th.

Apparently there had been people who dropped out and others who postponed there deliveries. So I managed to get mine 4-8 weeks early.
