Denison GW500 & Bluetooth & Pogo

DLAU

New member
I have just ordered and am having installed in my 997 C2S next Thursday 12th the Denison Gateway 500 with the new Denison BTA1000 Bluetooth option which includes a microphone and will allow me to make handsfree calls using the PCM Bose speakers and will mute the radio/iPod etc

The Bluetooth might also display the CLI of incoming calls on the PCM screen which would be good. I will have to dial out using the phone though but at least I will have proper integrated handsfree.

At the same time I have upgraded my Origin B2 GPS camera detector to their new colour Pogo Alert (Origin now do a trade in of £75 for your B2)...has any one got a Pogo as yet? I plan to have it installed in front of the front right windscreen pillar.

Will post again when it is all in with details of how it all works !!!

DLAU,

Cool...I will look forward to your report on how the bluetooth bit works before I commit. I have the Dension unit for the Ipod and it works really well.Just make sure that your Dension unit is running 2.02 software, as thats the latest interface thats just been released, and its lots better than the previous, just upgraded mine this weekend and it works really well. If yours is on 1.5 or similar you can just download the later version from the dension website & update the unit yourself, its pretty easy to do.

Both DLAU and Chris,

Be grateful if you could share your experiences with the Dension 500 as lots of register members are asking about ipod integration. I had an older Dension in a BMW about 3 years ago which was ok, but technology has moved on. I've taken a look at the Dension website now today and certainly the potential is quite exciting, especially when you consider the add-on bluetooth. I hope they succeed where Porsche have failed, as the lack of any factory ipod and a completely useless phone installation have proved.

Keep us in the loop !

I am extremely pleased with the Dension unit. Sound quality is excellant & the interface is easy to use. I had a BMW M6 with the BMW Ipod interface and it was really not very good at all, the Dension unit beats it hands down. I have over 25gb of music on my Ipod and I can get to any album or artist very quickly. Generally I use playlists to organise my music though. Be careful how you rip music onto your Ipod, I researched it long ago and found that the best setting in itunes to rip music from cd is 256 AAC Flac/lossless encoding..use that setting and the quality is the same as CD.
The only slight issue with the dension is that as it is made to work with many differant systems it uses the >> ( fast forward/next track ) button a lot to select stuff ( obviously as all car units have one of these buttons )..you can use the Porsche rotary knob a bit to scroll but not to select items. It is ok once you get used to it.
Easiest way to see whats what & get some tips is to keep viewing the rennlist forum, link below...the guys there have a 34 page thread so far & now some of them are just getting their blue tooth connections, so worth keeping an eye on for tips/info.
Like I say overall the Dension unit is superb, wouldnt be without it now.

Do you mind me asking how much is the BTA1000?

I know you can get the Gateway500 for £269 - Im guessing it would be about £100 for the fitting of it all, but it seems pretty straight forward for a DIY job...

yep, GW500 £280, BTA1000 £80, fitting £117.

I am not DIY minded and would hate to damage my 997 so using Car Electronics who installed a GW500 in our BMW 535D Sport.

Every thing installed and all more or less working. I have upgraded to the latest V2.03 firmware as well.

The iPod works well although at first I did not think it was...in essence it is initially pretty difficult to find your way around the PCM screen to get your playlists, and track selections etc. Now I have got my head round it it is ok. Controls on the Multifunction steering wheel work as well.

The CD autochanger buttons 1,2,3, 5 & 6 plus the << & >> track selection buttons are prominent in the operation of the Dension.

One small anomoly is that when you use the selector knob or steering wheel selector on things like 'Track Selection' it plays the track you stop on without you actually selecting it? can be frustrating if you don't actually want that track.

The BTA1000 Bluetooth works, again using the PCM screen is a little convoluted to make and receive calls so I use my actual Samsung SGH i600 Handset (now in a Porsche 997 specific Brodit phone holder which is great). even when dialling or receiving calls from the phone the system mutes the sound and puts the call via my PCM Bose system [:)]

The down side (which maybe phone specific) is the volume in the car for me to hear phone calls is pretty low so I have to turn the volume up pretty high. The downside of this is when you end the call the music kicks back in at the high volume !!!

The installer said that the Nokia phone they tested the Bluetooth with was loud in the car. Dension are calling me directly to discuss.

The new Pogo Alert GPs speed camera detector is awesome in colour and has new features over teh Origin B2 it replaces

Yep,

I had mine (and the wife's) fitted at the Castle Boulevard shop in Nottm (they also have two other sites) http://www.cel-direct.com/

Darren is the main sales contact 01159 240666 and Dave is the service manager 01159 240666

Hope that helps...let me know if you have any more questions.
