Have received information that the Denison Gateway 500 for ipod connectivity is now available for those of us with MOST audio systems. In the info from the German retailer there are some cars with incompatible cables "

"The GATEWAY 500 is compatible with Porsche models Cayenne, Boxter, Cayman and 911 with optical MOST bus.

Partially, optical cables made by Yazaki were used for the optical MOST bus in about 10 % of all cars of the mentioned models.

If the MOST bus was manufactured with these Yazaki cables, the respective car is not yet supported by the GATEWAY 500. A version of the GATEWAY 500 for these cars is in process.
Therefore, before ordering the GATEWAY 500 please have your car checked on the existence of Yaziki optical cables in a Porsche specialized garage."

Does anybody know how we tell if we have the Yazaki cables?

After 3 years waiting, and the prospect of spending over £400 to have it fitted, this is a truly poor situation - i'm amazed people still want to pursue the Dension connections.

Try talking to Adam at NavTV 0870 801 0440 . They have a product that should work, I am having one fitted on Wednesday.

suggest you look at the 997 bgoard on www.rennteam.com there have been loads of glitches with the Nav TV solution. Very little word on issues with the Dension product to date, which might just merit the extremely long time its taken them !

No clue, but funny.

I have a 1988 Toyota pickup that I have owned since 1989. Made in Japan. I think outside the North American market it is called a Hilux.

The instrument cluster is made by Yazaki. Look in the upper left hand corner of the picture.

Not yet - but the Dension is currently on it's way from eBay via Royal Mail! Spoke to a local installation company and they have done them before in Porsches and didn't find any major problems. I hope to have it fitted in a couple of weeks so if you haven't done it by then I'll let you know how it goes.

I have had a Dension unit in my 06 C2 for around 18mths now, and I would thouroughly recommend it. You get the same level of controls via the PCM as you do on then Ipod. I was lucky enough to get a new Iphone so my old 5G ipod stays in the car (Under the bonnet in the area near the navigation unit (and disc changer if you have one).

I did a long [:)] post some time back about mine being fitted, and how I initially went for a different alledgedly better brand which failed miserably, and how it all went. Put in a search and you'll find it

Regards

Paul

I've now had the unit fitted and must say that it works very well - it will happily play music from my iPhone or via a USB stick, and the phone function works well via Bluetooth. The only slight downside is that you get a 'phone error' message every time the PCM starts up as the built-in phone has to be disconnected in order for the car controls to be able to interface with the Bluetooth. That's only a very minor problem though and the call quality is excellent.

Re the warranty question, two things, a) there is a little switch on the front of the Dension unit that makes it invisible to the Porsche test equipment (PWIS?) and b) I have had a new exhaust, new instrument cluster, a new complete engine and the majority of the cost of a flywheel, all done under warranty without any issue. Maybe my OPC (Bournemouth) is just one of the good ones?

Regards

Paul

Definite no-no if you want to keep the warranty.

There is a Porsche solution listed in Tequipment, but it is just a line in with charging function and does not allow you to control the iPod via PCM.

The best bit is that I've been quoted £575 fitted!!! CDs don't seem so bad anymore, and if you have a later unit then you can play mp3 CDs.

Sorry to disagree, I had a Dension unit (good choice by the way) fitted before the car was a year old, subsequent to that I have had a warranty engine (complete), drivers binnacle matrix display, exhaust, flywheel, all replaced without question.
Maybe my OPC is just one of the good ones (Bournemouth).
There is a small switch on the Dension unit which renders it invisible to the PWIS that the OPC uses for disgnostics, so all that needs to be done is flick the switch before giving the car to your OPC.
To be sure though, if I were you. I'd ask the OPC up front and see what they say.
Paul

As Paul points out there are some OPC's that are worth talking to prior, however the rules do state it would/should void your warranty.
