Dension Gateway install - Access codes for PCM2?

Hi all,

I am going to install a Dension Gateway 500 to intergrate my Ipod in the next few days but a thought crossed my mind regarding access codes for the PCM. In my C4 the PCM1 needed 2 codes to activate the unit following battery disconnection so I thought I had better check my new C4S PCM (v3.0) manual. Two things struck me immediately. 1. No mention of access codes that I could see in the manual and 2. No code numbers anywhere in my wallet.

Question: If I disconnect the battery, will the PCM come on line without an access code(s)?

TIA

Is this a MOST wiring car?

If so then I understand the PCM is coded to the car's ECU - and therefore does not need a code.

As above. No codes required.

You will need access to a Porsche Systems Tester if you don't already have the CD Changer installed (and if you do the CDC will no longer be useable).

Richard Hamilton kindly sent me some detailed instructions for fitting into a 2003 Boxster with a CDR23 which I used to fit the Gateway 500 into my 2003 TT also with CDR23 - it contains the details for programming with the PST which were helpful for the brief trip to the Indie and will be very similar with the PCM. PM me with your email address if you want them sending on.

I installed the unit on the back of the glovebox as space was a bit tight elsewhere.

Thanks to both of you, That would explain no reference to access codes in the book!

I should have said I have a C4S MY2004 with CDC4 and Bose which by default denotes the MOST Bus. Therefore I will not need to re-programme and I am aware that the MOST Bus on Porsche does not support multiple units.

I have been pondering on where best to site the equipment and so far my thoughts are for putting the Gateway unit in the space vacated by the CDC which means I had to order the cable extension kit. What I haven't settled on is the position of the USB mounting kit, Aux input and the Ipod Clip. Strongly feel they will end up in the glove box but nothing is set in stone yet. As anyone (and I am leaning toward Richard Hamilton here!) got a picture/instructions of the Glove Box removal?

David, when you need to update the firmware, how easy is it to get to your Gateway when its in the position you have it? And if you are refering to the Radarack website download for a Gateway install on the Boxster I have already got that thank you.

Cheers Guys.

Hi Ron

Those are the same instructions and as you have the CDC yours should be plug and play once you set the jumpers. I don't need to access the unit as the USB cable is also in the glovebox and I have already used it to update the firmware. I also thought about the CDC location but everything was neater under the dash.

I have the glovebox removal instructions also from Richard so I will email these across to you now.

Hi, sorry to gatecrash but i'm thinking of installing a gateway into my '04 Boxster (MOST)....

Have been looking on the denison website, and it seems the gateway is a pure audio device, so no ability to add a video source (e.g. tv tuner). I know it seems daft to have tv in a car, but it was useful in my old 5 series when stuck in crawling traffic...

Am i correct on the gateway ? If so, has anyone been able to find a device that integrates tv as well as ipod connectivity ?

Try Nav-TV. They have a comparable unit that also comes with an AV module that requires wiring into the PCM. It's connected through the NAV function meaning that when a source is detected, it'd bypass and show the video. When the course is powered down, the NAV returns to the screen.

I'd suggest doing a lot more research on the issue because the Nav-TV device has been rather flaky with pre PCM2.1 systems.

David,

Nothing received yet but if its the same as the stuff Richard is going to send than I have emailed him and I expect he will provide the data I need.

As for the positioning, yours does look very neat and out the way and I realised soon after asking about updating that the USB lead will do that. Are you pleased with the results with the system and can you select and browes the Ipod in much the same way as you would out of the car?

Ron - I have the CDR23 so functionality is not as good as the PCM. However you can use the iPod itself (or a passenger can) or you just use playlists to move around. Not had a problem with it yet.

The quality is great and obviously much more capacity than a CDC.

In response to the above question about video - I believe that there is now a AV extender for the Gateway so you can watch iPod video on the car screen. I presume therefore that if you can hook up some other form of AV signal such as TV then it should be functional but you would need to research with Dension.

There is also now a bluetooth adaptor for further functionality.
