Dension madness - HELP

Guys,

Looking for help fitting Dension 500 Gateway.

I have fitted the gateway unit using the CDC MOST plug.
I have used an additional MOST harness to plug the CDC into the Dension unit - using the correct MOST ports.

When switching on, 9 times out of 10, I get NAV, CDC AMP not available and no sound.
Occasionally, I get radio for about 5-10 seconds, then a clicking from the sub in the back.

The DIP switches are set correctly (I've even tried a few alternatives) but still hitting this wall.

Can anyone help and offer any assistance.

Thanks in advance
DAve

I'm guessing it is a post-2005 Cayenne with PCM2.1.

Have you tried connecting the Dension without the CDC, and changing the DIP switches accordingly? It might be with trying that first.

The error messages you are getting (9/10) are typical of what you get when the MOST loop is not complete. Is the Dension powered up correctly?

Hi Richard,

It is a 2003/4 Cayenne with Bose and PCM2.1
The phone module has been bypassed with a fibre loop as it causes a battery drain.

I have tried every way conceivable and every combination of switch position.
The best I can get is about 10 secs of the radio, then either the head unit goes blank and reboots or just no sound.

My guess is a faulty Dension - I have checked the optical signal flow to make sure it is going in and out where it should.
I have tried it before the amp, after the amp, straight out of the PCM and last thing before it goes back into the PCM.
Ive tried with and without CDC

Even tried it in the by-pass mode expecting the signal just to link through - but no.

There are red lights flashing on the Dension unit but still no joy.

Out of desperation, I have sent a query direct to Dension for help but awaiting a response.

The car is back together now pending more info/ideas.

I've even considered the Tequipment aux input kit - but believe this only to be an FM modulator

If it is an 03/04 car, it will be PCM2.0, not 2.1.

If you have bypassed the phone module, it should really be coded out of the "Required MOST Components" in the PCM, and the order of components in the loop should be changed accordingly. I'm not too familiar with the Dension, but I suspect it might be being touchy about the way the system is coded. If you have the Bluetooth adapter, I think it only requires coding for a CDC, and it might be that because it is coded for telephone then it is throwing a wobbly. (Technical term.) Just a hunch.

Thanks Richard.

I tried with the phone module reconnected but no success

What is the difference between the PCM 2.0 and 2.1

Thanks
Dave

2.1 is DVD based, with a separate navigation drive under the passenger seat (in a Cayenne). Apart from having all the maps on one DVD, there are a few other improvements over 2.0, such as partial postcode searches, TMC, etc.

See what Dension say - they should have a good idea of what is going wrong.

Dension technical help are a complete waste of time.
They suggest that the optical wire isnt plugged into the head set.

May have to revert to option 2 and find someone local who is willing to try my unit in their system to see if it is a Dension fault.
