Dented Bumper

Some nice person put a dent in my rear bumper in the public parking at Thruxton at the weekend. Must have hit it quite hard as the alarm was triggered! Needless to say no note from anybody. The paint's not marked but the dent is just on the edge of the number plate recess. Any ideas for getting the dent out? [:(]

How very annoying.

I managed to back mine into an "invisible" 4 foot high bright blue post last year and I'm sure that someone suggested using a hairdryer to warm up the affected area. Can't say I tried it though. I don't think that a mobile dent repair expert can help with plastic. To a good extent, mine has somehow managed to self repair so it may be worth leaving it a while?

I have heard of the hair dryer trick but my understanding was that you heated it up and pushed it bacl into shape, which I can only do if I take the bumper off - which I'd like to avoid. I think you're right about the Mr Dent thing.

Maybe it's best to wait and see if it follows your example. I'm sure I see it far more than others!

You need a hot air drier, a damp rag and a bit of practice - its more massage than pushing from behind - i saw a punched in corner of a Merc E class removed magically in about 10 minutes. ChipsAway normally offer this sort of service. However, if there is any creasing on the number plate recess folds (ie 90' bends) they might not be able to remove those.

This done to my son's 996 Knutsford last Sunday, no note left so he will have to pay for the 2K repair.

Ouch! What annoys me is the attitude of some people. Firstly, those that don't leave a note and secondly those that say "if you can afford a Porsche then you can afford the repair"!

Unfortunately it is just on the fold so has dented in and up, if you see what I mean. The plus side is that I had a better look yesterday and there is a large grommet in the engine bay right in line with the dent so it may be possible to have a go at heating it and pushing from the inside with a suitable implement. What I want to avoid is going from the frying pan to the fire!

I had a similar area of damage repaired by a company called LittleKnocks in Wokingham for £200 a year ago. It would be worth driving south to avoid the £2k bill you mention. As it's only a PU I didn't worry about invalidating the Porsche warranty on bodywork and the repair is invisible - to my old eyes anyway !

Cheers for that, unfortunately the car has all ready gone to Porsche for repair, (he loves his car and could not bare to look at it any longer). Will make a note of the company as may be needed in the future.
