Guys,

I posted this on the Facelift thread.....I ordered a facelifted 997 C2S for Septenber delivery yesterday - yipeeee.

I can't understand the lack of excitement from everyone - have I caused some major upset or was the message too hidden???

Whilst were obviously not as excited as Paul or yourself [;)] congratulations..

I think we'd all like to see confirmed spec for the facelift... even then you need to realise that almost from the day the 997 was launched that there has been chat about the forthcoming facelift..

Plenty of people to ask advice on your spec and plenty of time to lose sleep over it, just ask Alex or myself... it almost put me off ever ordering a new car ever again[] It really does get quite stressfull..

What is your ideal on spec at the moment ?? C2S and ??

garyw

Thanks, spec is already a concern - the car configurator is addictive! I don't have anything confirmed on the facelift, and nothing will be confirmed until July when price and options are available and when I have to specify what I want. The rumours appear quite accurate, but there was nothing certain.

Here are some thoughts on spec with some notes:

911 Carrera S - Definate - this is what I've ordered.
Ruby Red Metallic - No idea, like this but like GT silver and may go for exclusive colour to be unique. This is the hardest choice - currently have meteor.
Leather interior in Black - Like black, may get deviating stitching.
Windscreen with grey top tint - non option
ParkAssist (parking aid rear) - haven't got it on Cayman and miss it
Manual Transmission - or DSG style if available
Sport Chrono Package Plus - means I get a 'sport' button
Sport shifter - unless DSG
Sports exhaust system - told it sounds great, but maybe just the tips, a lot of £££'s
19-inch Carrera Sport wheel - hoping for new options here but like these wheels
Sports seats - not really much more £££'s than standard seats
Heated seats - I love this option
Cruise control - Not sure
Floor mats - or may not order them in hope they are given free
Rear section of center console in exterior colour - depends on colour but breaks up the black
Three-spoke sports steering wheel in smooth leather - OPC say it is a must
Porsche Vehicle Tracking System (VTS) - non option
Extended navigation module - hopeful of new system inc Bluetooth so delete phone option
BOSE Surround Sound System - I only listen to background radio do I need it?
Telephone module - as above

Honest we are reasonably excited.

Spec looks good. I'd go for the short shift and the sports exhaust, 8k miles in on mine and its fabulous - it even pops on the overrun like an old racer..:ROFLMAO:

Exterior colour sounds groovey but what baout something to brighten up the interior like Coco or blue.

If you do long motorway trips Bose is must IMHO

I guess everyone was quiet as we've all speculated the facelift to death and the OPC's have been good at spreading FUD (Fear, Uncertanty and Doubt - old US secret services acronym) ) over the spec. i guess everyone just wants Porsche to firm up the spec and prices plus options - so you can firm up your options [:)] and we can all be outraged at how much the spec changes and therfore impacts our resale..........[]

Hi,

I wouldn't bother with the short shift, it just makes 2nd gear literally impossible when cold and still very stiff when warm, if you force it, it will just crunch,

in the winter when leaving the house I have to rev it in 1st and then put it in 3rd,

Dave

I've heard others complain of this but have never experienced it on my car. Short shift makes such a difference - I wouldn't have another 911 without it.

Was asking my OPC about the facelift today - and the softening resale values of the Turbo [:(] - and he mentioned there is a new sat nav with touch screen on MY09 Carrera models.

I'm not sure about Ruby red. Try configuring white with black wheels and the aerokit.

Thanks for the comment; I anticipate an endless effort in defining the spec. I like the black on white, but feel white is a brave colour in the UK, albeit very cool. I also fear speedbumps prevent the aerokit!![]

I'm going to wait on the short shift decision in the hope of DSG style instead; I think this could really make the car.

Does anyone know of a definitive list of the special colours; I know you can colour to sample but it would be good to see the 'have made' list - the website and literature mention a few, (estoril blue, fountain blue), but it would be great to have the whole list.

I've also heard about the tpuch screen Nav - should be good helping find my way from home to work everyday!

Ditto.

Forget DSG etc, Porsche's manual tranny is so good and involving to use any automated system will detract from the pleasure somewhat.

My Beemer has a very slick paddleshift auto but its just not 'natural' somehow.

Thanks to all for the advice, at the moment I can't get the powerkit out of my head, I'm guessing it will still add another 30 hp - here's a subjective question but is it really worth £8K?

I am with Yves here - it takes a while to bed in _ Factory paperwork says between 6k - 10k miles to dvelop full power. I have done 8.5k miles. the diference is very noticable, it is a much quicker car than the stock C2/4S.

Gt Porsche or similar figured a Powerkit as part of a group test and with the shorter gearing it kept up with a GT3 until about 110mph after which the GT3 pulled away. it was quicker to 60 at 4.3 secs.......Sounds fantastic too with the sports exhaust[:D]

Atlas is a geat colour but 3 problems:

1. My current colour is Meteor and it may be a bit 'samey'
2. I object to paying £1500 for it when last year it was a standard metallic.
3. My youngest daughter is called Ruby - kinda fate??

I really like white though especially with white seatbacks, white centre console and white dials!! Feels like a brave choice though.....

Go with what you like and want - Don't buy options on what they'll do for resale as there will always be a reason why "its not that in demnd any more sir" when you come to resale and you'll get done any way.

Buy what you want and enjoy it for as long as you can. So if you want white - go for it. Its a cool colour.

OK so I convince myself to go the X51 route then when I go by the OPC for a drive I'm told it will unlikely be available on the facelift....I'm a bit sad but I will be £8K better off and I guess I could always retro it when they get it sorted. I should have 380hp anyway.

Not that it isn't quick in 355hp form - I embarassingly hit the rev limiter the darn thing accelerated so fast!!!!!

Cheers....

What - no powerkit? Hmmm maybe my car won't take as bad a bath as I was expecting at trade in (still expecting to get hammered though)
