Depreciation on 996's....

I am hoping to soon join you guys in the rank of 996 ownership...

I'm looking to buy a 996 (c2 or c4), either standard or with factory GT3 kit, dependant on the condition/histpry of the individual car.

I've always lusted after a 911, and have areal sof spot for both the 993/996....

I intend to keep the car for one year......I am wondering how much I can expact to lose on a 996 over this year...

I intend to pay around £27k, and I will be lovingly looking after it....

Can I expect to resell for £25k at the end of my year of wondership, or are 996 prices likely to go lower...

Please advise....

not sure.

However i bought my C4 Cab in July 04 for £55k and when i went to trade in agaist a 997 Cab I was offered £42k a drop oof £13k in a year [].

With age oof your car and the price range you are at i would expect you to lose about £4 to 5K in a year.

Only a guess.

There is a school of thought that early 996s are undervalued at present, so you might do quite well buying now.

Late 993s have been reaching more than early 996s, but as we move into the second generation of watercooled 911s, I think the 996s will get even more accepted, and the price move up accordingly in relation to the previous generations.

However the 993 will always have the cachet of being the last air cooled model, and would be the conservative (from a financial point of view) choice. It depends how you intend to use it, if it's to be a daily user, then I'd go for the 996, if you want a classic, then the 993.

Mike is correct.

As earlier 996s fall into the sub £30k bracket a whole new market starts to open up, for which there should be a healthy demand for good examples.

The skill, at outset, is in buying the best possible 996 for the lowest possible price. A private purchase from someone staring at a derisory trade in offer is the best bet.

However, to get the best price when you come to sell, the car would need to be in first class order, fsh, good colour combo, high spec, lowish mileage etc.

plus you get what you pay for, I looked at cheap 996's, you could really tell, scratched and banged up mostly
