Depreciation

Hello there,

Does anybody have any idea what the yearly depreciation would be on a 1985 3.2 carrera targa in good condition. Just wondering how much I might be losing per year, or if the prices have bottomed out or may rise.

Thanks,

Philip.

Hi Philip, I bought my 3.2 carrera 3 years ago and was looking for about 6 months before I bought. I would say the prices are the same today as they were 3 years ago. So I'd say the prices have bottomed-out and I think that happened a few years ago now.

If you maintain the car's condition at the same level, it shouldn't depreciate like a "ordinary" car would.

It depends on what you paid for it. If you put only a few thousand miles a year on it, and you maintain its service record, then depreciation should be zero.

Philip,
[:D] Hi there dude,
I was looking on the Parker's web site and found the page for the earlier 911 to be quite good. Go to;
http://www.parkers.co.uk/choosing/car/_reviews/
Take the links to suit the 911.
A good honest evalution.
Looking after a 911 is a full time occupation, if you're prepared to do most of the work as and when required, use the OEM parts, you'll have a good car. Its a bit like children and parents - some people don't deserve to have children!
There are 100's of 911's in the wreckers cause people get frightened by the on-going maintenance costs, and so neglect the car, which of course ends up with the body full of rust, etc, failed MOT, and herendous repair bills.
all the best,
Peter

HI Philip, my car is a sport hardtop and is the same value as it was when i first got it in 1995. it has been looked after and not had a load of money spent on it,just hard work cleaning makes a big diffrence. i think the same as the other guy on this post, the prices have now gone to the lowest as they will go. looking at a few prices they , if anything seem to have gone up.

good luck

steve

Thanks for your replies, this is pretty much what I thought, and makes me feel good! Not many cars have zero depreciation!

Philip!

Ah yes I remember reading the Parker's review, in the section on used 911's pre 89 the first paragraph states that the engine is air cooled. They go on to say that you need to look out for coolant leaks from the head gaskets, do they know something we don't?

Which just goes to show that a 911 is in fact a very cheap car to run. Depreciation is usually the biggest cost in car ownership
