Design 90 wheels - any difference?

Can anyone possibly tell me if there any differences with design 90 wheels at all and what does the number stamped into the rim signify?
The set on my cab are starting to look a bit "battlescarred" but i've been offered a set today without tyres in apparently "ex" condition.
Thing is if the number on the rims is different to mine would my tyres fit (front 205/55-16,rear 225/50-16).He's asking 90 quid which sounds a bargain to me as long as my tyres will fit.

The numbers on the rim refer to the offset & size.
IIRC 7J ET55 is 7" wide & 55mm offset (Don't know why the mix of inches & mm)

Thanks graeme, so if they have a different offset to the one's on mine is it likely they won't be compatable or can i fit spacer's etc to get them on (i'm ignorant on this subject as i've never touched the wheels on my cab).
Thanks.

Design90's came in many sizes. Some of the 911's used a 6" front rim, and the 944T used a 9" rear rim.

Unless you want to upgrade to a set of turbo-sized rims (which are 7.5" with 225/50/16 fronts, and 9" wide with 245/45/16 rears) then you want to make sure you are buying what you have just now.

S2 design90 wheels are 7x16 ET55 on the front, and 8x16 ET53 on the rear. As stated - Porsche handily marked the wheels on the front, so one one side of the valve on your front wheel you should see a "7", and on the other side of the valve "55".

If the wheels you've been offered are these sizes, they may be worth a punt.

May be worth getting your current set refurbed instead. Mine were done 6 months or so before I got the car, and they really are lovely - look like new. I've seen costs as low as £140 a set for powder coating, but the centrcaps tend to lose their definition. I think mine were repainted, which possibly cost a little more (?).

Yep they are front 6" wheels from a 964.

However the available offsets for 6" Design90 wheels were 52, 52.3 and 55 so I don't know where the 51 comes from [&:] It's only a couple of mm though.

Thanks diver944, think i'll go and have a look as apperently ther're in really good nick.Would they bolt straight on or would i need spacers?

I'd keep an eye on ebay and other sales sites.. pistonheads.com etc.. I got a set of D90's for £100 and they were fresh from the powdercoater and they were the right size!
If you dont need 2 sets of wheels then I'd see if you cant 'borrow' a set of wheels and send yours to the powder coaters

I had 6" D90's on my LHD S2 coupe and they were fine, just not right. I'd get the right thing, refurb wat you have or get Cups.

Design 90's only came in 16" as far as I know, although I'm sure someone will be along shortly to prove me wrong [:D]
