Design 90 wheels - how much should I offer

Been offered a set of D90's by a guy at work..... he got them to fit to a Golf, but is scrapping the Golf now.

He told me they are a set of 8" and 9" wheels, but didn't say what offset.

Have no tyres fitted and one wheel has slight kerbing damage, and they are in need of a refurb.

What do you reckon I should offer him?

If they are 8 and 9 then they are turbo ones (or from another model, 964, 928) so may not fit. Someone with a better understanding of offsets will be along to explain why!

As for price - depends on condition from 150-400?

964 = 6" & 8". 944S2 = 7" & 8". 944T = 7.5" & 9" (+ late 928). Theyre all ABS offset, so theyll fit onto a 1987 onwards 944.

Mines an late 87 944S, so should be ok then.

Will try and find out the offsets..... Was thinking of offering between £150 and £175 for them.

All 944Ss are late offset. 1987 model year cars were built from September 1986 onwards and the S was introduced as a 1987 model. With regards to price: Id try to get them for as little as possible. 8" & 9" is a desirable size combination but VW owners have always over-valued Porsche parts (although I iddnt complain about this when I was selling to them), so you might struggle to even get them for an acceptable price, let alone a good one.

Mike at the blast shop will have them looking as good as new, may have a set of decent rear tyres here.

Has anyone got 8J fronts and 9J rears on their S2?

Have already seen an S2 with that combination, front wheels arches were nicely filled, not sure if it made a great difference in handling as the 8" and 7" originally both ride on 205/55 tyre, offset is the same (52.3 IIRC) and there should'nt be a vast weight difference.

James: itll look a little smarter, but it wont drive quite as nicely. Gordo: he may have only paid £90 for them, but after he has painted/polished them Im sure theyll be up for £500+, like all the others...[:D]
