hya all. time for my design 90s to get some attention,no kerbing but rims need sorting. would it be better to replace or refurb re price, any advice much appreiciated, thanks jason

It depends on whether you like them or not. I'm not a great fan of D90's so wouldn't spend more money on them.

Refurbs seem to be between £50 and £100 a wheel so you would be well on your way to another set of wheels second hand.

I think D90's in graphite can look rather good, black is nice too especially if you add a red accent to the rim.

As someone who likes the way Porsche designed the cars, and feels they are very much "of their time" looks-wise with the pop-ups etc. I'd keep the original wheels. I know I'm in a minority here though. [&o]

The one I'm looking at has immaculate D90s and they look great, although I would prefer 16" teles. It also has amber lenses, quite refreshing on car these days! [:-]

I agree. Most cars with non-original wheels (be they genuine Porsche parts or reproductions -always rubbish-) look rubbish in my opinion. Few after-market wheels seem to suit the cars either.

Tend to agree with Paul on the wheels - my Design 90's could do with refreshing although they aren't too shabby. I'm going to get them done soon and finished in the original colour....I'm one of the very few who's not so keen on the currently popular graphite colour and certainly don't think they look good on red IMHO.

However with regard to the lenses, especially the fronts, I can't see how you can prefer orange on a Titanium car(which I'm very much looking forward to seeing) - speak to me after class :ROFLMAO:[;)]

Richard ........wouldn't say no to some original Cup 1's [8D]

Mine need doing too (maybe this year, depending on what the bodywork costs!), and like Paul I'm happy with the car's '90s look...alpine white with that relentlessly blue interior, dash, gearknob, even the headlining for goodness sakes!

I'll probably stick with silver but Peter has a point...graphite really does look good. Remember, several people have pointed out on here that OE spec Design 90s are lighter than many non standard wheels...Wolfie's right, though: Cup 1s look good too.

Must get organised to put the car up on jackstands and get the wheels to Pristine. Come to think of it, graphite would look good with alpine white...

D90s all the way for me. They just look right. I'm not even that keen on Cup alloys on 944s.
Hadn't thought about changing the colour mind - my CS alloys will need a bit of attention this year so what colour shall I make them for a red car. (No not pink! [;)] )

Original fitment wheels, amber lenses,Flag mirrors look so nice if its a road car,i just think non standard can look a bit messy sometimes and like you wish had a more modern Porsche. I think D90s look really period, they have a really simple clean look.Really not keen on fake cups especially the cup1 copies, stand out a mile to me.[:'(]

Nicely set off with non classic clear front and side indicators [;)]

Graphite Design 90's would look nice too on white, but on red(not pink), shiny original silver is my choice - with new colour crested centres [8D]

I am a big fan of the D90s - they definitely suit the car and haven't really aged at all, despite being nearly 20 years old. It keeps the car's exterior looking original, just like the car in that poster I had on my wall when I was a small boy at boarding school! (That probably gives away my age...)

Also, I am under the impression that D90s are solid wheels that are still one of the lightest 16"s available that would fit our cars...I'm always on the look out for D90s to put Toyo R888s on for track days! I'd keep them - but if you are getting replacements, I'll take them off your hands for the right price!

I have some Cup '93s which are light. I keep meaning to weigh them and tell ze Germans (http://www.944racing.de/reload.php?urltogo=http://www.944racing.de/felgengewichte.html).....

Ding dong! Nail on the head - give that man a biscuit!

D90's all the way. (Paul McNulters, looks like that minority you spoke of is not looking so small, eh? May even be a majority, judging by the posts on this thread ... !)

Oli.

Sorry, for me though putting clear lenses looks like someone with an old car trying to make it look like the latest facelift car as was the fashion in the mid 90s,don't see the point.Doesn't work for me but thats just me everyone has to enjoy their car, their own way.

Black cup alloys on my white lux - otherwise totally standard. I like the fact that everything is now either black or white!

Perhaps I am in the minority then because out of the available Porsche wheels the D90 is my least favourite option. They are a pig to keep clean and look awful when dirty. Both the Fuchs and cup 1's from the 968 in the same sizes are lighter. I actually quite like the teledials, the earlier deep offset ones look great on early turbos but IMHO the fuchs look even better.

My car had D90's on when I bought it. They were scuffed so I'd more or less decided to get them refurbished. Luckily before I did that I needed a pair of new tyres and the wheels were out of balance. The guy who did the balancing told me that the two of wheels were warped / buckled and wouldn't balance - he showed me on his spinning wheel balancing thing. It was only a few millimetres out, but I decided to then go to Porsche-Apart in Ramsbottom near Bury, where I got a set of refurbished exchange wheels (D90s again) for little more than the cost of refurbishing the 4 I had.

Anyway, bottom line - I like the D90s - they fit well with the car. They do get dirty, but I managed to get some Virosol which just needs a few squirts (heavily diluted) and a brushing to bring them up like new.

thanks for the help/advice all, will stay with design90s and get them refurbed but i must say would like to see s2 with fuchs from 968 but tend to agree original looks best, [i mho]boxster alloys on 944models look very wrong, once again thanks the advice jason p

Fuchs can only fit on the older 944's and the very first pre-ABS turbos because they had a much smaller offset, The 16" cup 1 wheel from the 968 is what I have on my race car project. If I include those currently sat on the 968 I have 3 sets now, IMHO this is the best Porsche wheel for an S2 race car, a good few of those racing S2's in the PCGB club championship use these wheels. The most horrible looking wheels ever to fit on a 944 are the odd 16" wheels used ISTR on some 993's and 964, of course the boxster 16" wheels look pretty gash as well, in fact beyond horrible. I used to think the Azev wheels looked really good but their designs have aged very badly.
